Would you like your bike to run right? 2 Years, 1 Month ago
Like many of you... I've had jetting problems with my carbureted 07 Roadstar. The bike was set up incorrectly by the dealer and has mis-behaved since day one. Mostly decel backfiring, bad gas mileage, and poor ride-ability. After two guessing attempts to lean it out by Yamaha mechanics, I finally brought it into a local performance shop (Ducati of Mpls) and had it done right. I have never been so happy to spend $550 dollars on a re-jet and dyno run! The most significant adjustment was the main jet being changed from 180 to 155. Gas was pouring through the blubbering engine (which actually increased the compression and hp). Any way.... my point here is not to assume the Yamaha shop knows a generic jetting configuation for your bike. What worked on the last bike, may not work for yours. Bring it someone that has the proper equipment to get it right the first time. It will save time, money, and thoughts of purchasing a different bike.

Good info, and I'm glad to hear your running good finally. I've never had an issue with the jetting on my 07 (knock on wood).

Yes, the 155 main jet was his second attempt. Unfortunately, I had to pay him to tear it down twice.

I'll bring the dyno info from home and post it tomorrow. It also shows a before and after condition, which was interesting.

I have 3" HK pipes w/baffles, AIS removed, K&N filter in OEM housing. Is this what your asking fireman 922? Or are you talking about pilot, needle, etc. Sorry, I have limited knowledge with engines.

Yes, that is what I was asking about. Did you drill any new holes in the air filter housing (poor mans BAK)?

No holes drilled in the air box. Probably should have, but I like to keep her looking good. FYI, the air filter was added during a previous failed attempt to rejet at the Yamaha dealer.
