Rideability issues 2 Years, 1 Month ago
|
|
Brought it up under "jetting" before but now it's bad. After a normal start and warm up and riding a half mile or so the exhaust note changes and the bike seems to drop a cylinder and backfire for a few hundred feet and then goes away. The bike runs awesome 'till I shut it off and it cools a little then the same thing about the same time. The backfiring and loss of power concerns me. Am I starving fuel. It does this all the time, at the same time, and clears up at the same rate. SVS is a problem on 2007's as well? Had a leak at the manifold that I took care of by making gaskets. No change. This problem happened once with all the stock stuff awhile ago but never again until now. Any suggestions?

Does your bike develop a noticeable vibration when this is happening?

Actualy I noticed that the idle was way up one day. I figured it was because it was warmer. But after that this started, connected?

N0THD SVS can occur on our '07s too with improper jetting and/or adding too much oil (still not sure what exactly causes SVS). You might want to pour in a can of Seafoam in a full tank and run the tank out. See what that does. You can pull up a lot of posts on ways to cure SVS, as you probably already know.

Yeah it's got a whole can of seafoam in it now. When I had the plugs out I squirt some Deep Creep in the holes, when I put 'em back in and started it up, no smoke. Don't know what gives. May have to turn in the PMS a little. To two turns.

Take your air box off and shoot the Deep Creep straight into the carb while she is running (warmed up helps it stay running). It will try to stall , but keep her going. As you see the smoke start out of the exhaust , continue spraying D/C in letting the bike just idle on its own , it will stall. I always shot a generous amount in the carb after it stalled and just hit the starter button (not to the point of starting the bike , just for a second or two) and it would pull right in , do that a couple times. Then let it sit for about 15 minutes. When you fire that puppy up , be sure to be in a well ventilated area , as it will smoke like a beast.
Cleaning the system helps with SVS , but you will need to get down to the root problem. Otherwise it will just return. Hope this helps you get back to square one. BB

Deep Creep'd the crap out of it and she smoked like hell for a few seconds. Turned my PMS in to 1 3/4 out and hoping that leans it up enough. Took a short ride to get the temp up. No problems. Still might have a manifold leak that I'm going to investigate further. Hope this gets it.

Vibrations can be caused by SVS or a manifold leak due to an imbalance in the cylinders firing at different power levels.
If the vibes are new and apparent, you could have SVS. BB is right. I sprayed three times at thirty seconds each (per Docs suggestion) and it helped greatly. It recently came back and I turned down my PMS at lease 1/2 turn to lean her out some.
I will keep turning the PMS in until I get a hesitation on acceleration, and run it back out until hesitation stops.
One of the problems with me is that, reading posts here, many guys run at 2 1/2 turns out which is where I put mine. It ran great but it's too rich and causing SVS problems.
Hope this helps.
