The last three days I've been suffering from the hiccups again on any start after the motor is cold or cooled off. It's fine after warm. I also feel like it's just not running like it has for he last month for the last few days (installed the BAK about a month ago). I will get it right, or die trying. Was thinking of trying the settings (to a tee) that Musky is running , which would include a smaller main (167.5) because I have the pms at 3 1/2 . Hoping to lean the idle circuit out some. I can smell it good. It would require the needle adjustment (3 then spacer then washer , then other washer (3 1/2?) ). Thoughts.BB

When you gas it when cold and the bike "hiccups" (which I assume means bogs) the you're probably a bit rich on the needle. As you concluded, try lowering the needle 1/2 clip.

If your running a Mikuni 170, 35 pilot, BAK needle on 4, and PMS on 2.5 - 3 you should be fairly close and just need to tune it.

Doc, I finally got to try something today that you have asked in past post. I left work on a cool not dead cold engine, get about a mile away, she starts her "thing", I pull the choke completely out, and it stops doing it ENTIRELY. Would/could this indicate lean? This was at probably 1/4 throttle (off primary onto needle?)

YES, I love being the headache around here, now that Curt has given me the spotlight back! BB

Sorry, should have addressed this first. No, it's not really so much a bog as it is skipping, as if on one cylinder. Exhaust racket is hideous. Does it when it's cold, for a mile or so (after a good warm up, mind you)then is done. If I ride and park some place for enough time for her to cool down, I can expect it again. That's it in a nutshell.BB

Yes. In that case, ignore my previous post and go up 1/2 on the needle. So if you're running - washer, 4th clip, spacer, silver washer change it to washer, 4th clip, spacer, 2 silver washers.

O.K. Completed my work. Heres my specs now. 35 on the pilot jet, 170 on the main, Clip on the third grove from the top and PMS out 2 1/4 from seated. Took it for a spin and definitely a difference in power(Less). But Like I said I'm a cruiser not a speedster. Really need that MPG to go up. I'll check the MPG over the next couple of days(its raining today d-mn it). Any opinions on my settings?

You're too lean on the needle. Move it to the 4the clip and try it out.

I didn't want to go hunting for washers when I did mine so I just took the washer off the top of the clip and put it under the spacer. The spring is resting on the clip now but it seems to work just fine.
Don't know if this is recommended but that never stopped me anyway.

Alright Doc, I'll try it. Ever heard of someone needing to do this? I'm still alittle confused as to why mine does not allow me to run the PMS any lower than three and a half. Thoughts on that? Your help is appreciated.BB

My thoughts exactly Musky. I actually bought some (very) small washers from radio shack a few years back that guys were using in their carbs. I'm fairly positive that I can do the swap and use one of those on the top of the needle for good measure.BB

Trying to fix the hiccup first.

After she runs OK, then reset the PMS. If it's still out that far you can change out the pilot.

Every bike and situation is a bit different so although you can use someone else's settings they may not be optimum for you conditions.

Is your carb clean? No varnish or dirt? You're in Georgia so you rode all 'winter'.

Yep, I'm a Ga. boy. And I got to ride all "winter" (trust me, you would laugh at our winters here......like your spring).

It's actually time to pull the carb anywho, as my bigger N/S have been on the bench for 3 weeks. I'll throughly clean it out with air while it's apart.
How do you feel about dropping to the 167.5 while I'm in there? Thanks,BB
