Did the float level comparisons today. I am going to do an extensive write-up with pics but I thought I should give you the 'short' story.

OEM method = 3.5 mm below the mating surface
Carb on bench right side up, the measurement from the bowl mating surface to the top edge of float when the float just stops the flow of fuel = 14.5 mm

There are significant differences between when the needle seats in the seat and when the floats 'bottom out'. This is due to the way the needle 'hangs' on the tang rather than being an integral part of the tang.

Doc thanks for doing the legwork I look forward to seeing the writeup.....Just rejetted and added the Dyna ignition .....but I stayed with the stock coils for now since I just wrapped them figure I would see how they ran and.....when I run a few tanks or we get a rain day then I will go in and look at my floats again never have done the tube check seemed like a hassle. I have always flipped it over and measured ....Coug

So what measurement did you use when you flipped it over? From where did you obtain that value? Mine read 6.5 mm but in reality it's not an accurate measurement to use.

I just added 8.5 mm wires and Nemesis coils. I think there might be a small difference from my stock setup. Certainly doesn't idle different or smoother.

I need to pick up an after market ignition module, probably the Dyna. I need more headroom.

hey doc...
i definitely owe you a couple..if you can't find an ignition module there let me know what you wand and i will try to find one here in the US and ship it...as far as the float..
i will need the pics to even know where to look.. to see where mine is at
..Hell, i still can't find the pms.....
BTW, i did get another washer for my needle..the yami dealer gave me a jet kit he'd had sitting for free...and then proceeded to tell me my bike had the tranny recall done so I don;t get the freebie to add new pistons etc..
