Doc:

Help me wrap my mind around this one because I'm not getting it!

On my Maxmix Pro, the knurled knob protrudes down from the carb. If I twist the knob to the right, I tighten the screw and lean the mix.

If I don't get rained on tomorrow (unlikely, but anything can happen), I've got to try this. It's not making any sense to me.

Post edited by: 06MidnightStar, at: 2007/06/02 23:23

Yes, if you grab the thumbscrew with your thumb in front then your thumb must move counterclockwise, or to the right (tighty,) to screw the PMS in.

Normally your thumb moves clockwise then tightening a screw. When your hand is upside down your thumb moves counterclockwise.

Does this help.

Just grab a bolt, put your fingernail in a thread and twist away.

What if you were laying on your back I will never use the clock as a reference again.....unless I stress that they pretend to put their nose on the screwhead before turning it.. . in and out rules....Coug

If your thumb is in fornt, and it's moving to the RIGHT, then it's moving CLOCKWISE, right?

Normally your thumb moves clockwise then tightening a screw. When your hand is upside down your thumb moves counterclockwise.

Maybe it's semantics, but if yer talkin' screws or bolts, whether it's your finger or your thumb, whether it's up or down, RIGHT (clockwise) = IN, LEFT (counter clockwise) = OUT.

Just grab a bolt, put your fingernail in a thread and twist away.

I'll have to try this why I get home from church this afternoon. Who knows, maybe I have PMS and it's screwing with my logic!

Thanks, Doc (and Cougar and Big Bear, thanks for the grins).

Post edited by: 06MidnightStar, at: 2007/06/03 09:29

Wrong! If you are holding the thumbscrew, your thumb is facing you pointing up. As you screw the PMS in, your thumb moves to the right or counterclockwise.

Try the bolt trick - right side up, upside down, under water ....

We all get mixed up sometimes. There's the odd bolt that I've found tough to crack only to find I've been tightening it.

You guys are great, but confusing. One thing I know is this; no matter if your upside down, right side up, of any which way but loose, clockwise is always the same because your operational orientation is looking at the head of the screw as the face of the clock. The hands of the clock (clock wise) always go in the same direction, to the right. At any rate, I took off the air cleaner, drilled the holes in the cover a little larger and took a small flat head screw driver along with a mirror and gave the PMS screw a quarter turn clockwise. After putting it all back together I took her out for a short ride. Started up about the same, acceleration remains brisk, no hesitation or backfires so I'll put a couple of hundred miles on her this coming week and see if the MPG are improved any. Thanks for the support. By the way, how can I get the Clinic patch?

Easy, turn "in" a request for one to 2000roadstar under his patch post, and when they're ready, he'll ship one "out" to you! BB

Bless you. I thought I was cracking up, but I came to the same conclusion as you.

I now understand the other prespective, however; they are looking at the head of the screw from the opposing end - the non-operational end. Looking at the screw from behind the head presents the illusion that the screw is turning in the opposition direction.

The key here is "operational orientation".

Well, at least I'll be able to sleep tonight.

Thanks.
