well, i got my 1700 ignition module through from steven this morning, and just mounted it and tried it out.
OH YES!
what an improvement! bottom end is a bit crisper off the throttle, midrange and top end acceleration (all the way up to the now 5000rpm cutout) is greatly improved. brilliant cheap mod that one.
just got to fit the warrior diaphragm spring tomorrow, cos the clutch slip, although not much, is more noticeable if you really gun it. that´ll be the last engine mod i´ll be doing.
big hats off to steven for getting the module over here so fast. many thanks.
guess the only negative is my fuel consumption is gonna go up due to playing with the throttle too much  |

I have been looking for a Speedstar one on e-bay without much success. 
But you say the 1700 module is an improvement over the one on the 1600? I can find the occasional 1700 module that someone has from replacing it with a Dyna.

it was david `bulldog´ tise that pointed me in that direction a while back.
he explained that not only do get the raised rev limit, but the advance on the ignition curve is far better than the 1600 ignition box.
have a go, you WILL notice the difference, and it´s a lot cheaper than the dyna 3000 if the budget is limited.<br><br>Post edited by: erizo, at: 2007/05/30 08:54

Hey guys! Am I reading this right? Are you saying to put a stock 1700 ignition control module on a 1600?  If so...that's pretty cool!  A poor mans Dyna! |

update -
the first tank of gas went through the bike faster than a meal through a dysentery victim. improved throttle response has just GOT to be played with
the last couple of tanks have yealded an improvement in consumption. before with general mixed riding, i was averaging around 45mpg, this appears to have now changed to nearly 50mpg on mixed riding.
another couple of tankfuls and i´ll have pretty well an average consuption figure for y´all |

it´s there about 5000rpm on the tach, although i can´t say that the tach is 100% accurate.
but it´s better than the original cut out at just over 4000rpm
