Erbman it slips on without any effort and clamps down tight. The reason I picked it over the one you are using is the fit. The carb is 2.5" and the ID of the filter is 2.5625 so it is just enough to fit and have no rubber bunching to leak. I wish it hadn't been offset but it is no big deal as I will make it work. Cost on this filter was about $40 so I can't complain and I got tired of the chrome discoloring on the BAK plus it being so big and clunky.

erb's the man ....
Just swapped out the 20 pilot for a 25 and could tell the difference right away on startup.
Almost didn't need the choke and was able to turn the pilot screw from fully seated with the 20 to about 1.5 with the 25. Can't test and adjust as it's starting to rain.
Found almost all the jets and a needle at another HD dealer in town.
Thanks,
Doc

try another 1/4 turn out Doc, almost didn't need choke is a bit rich, here it's 80 in the morn, and still need choke, but will warm up in about a mile, and after about 10min riding, adjust the idle

I believe that's all it will seat, been a long time since I used the stock manifold, what you will also need to do if using the stock manifold clamp, is to remove the spacer that prevents the clamp from closing all the way, the spacer is fine for the stock carb spigot, but for the 42 carb since the spigot is smaller, that spacer won't let ya tighten the clamps the way it should be.

I have a special SS worm clamp that I am going to use. It is for racing carbs so that shouldn't be a problem. I would love to find a way to get rid of the step in the manifold so the carb spigot would seat all the way into the manifold.

Well I have come up with a bracket for the use of OEM R* throttle cables on the 42/45 flat side carb. I have a little tweaking to get rid of the cable rubbing the 42 bracket but it will work just fine. Here is the link. New Carb

Now that's interesting but you must really like to tinker ... my SS cables fit and I only had to bend the bracket up a bit and drill out the tubes just a hair larger.
