Got questions regarding the Float Adjustment Procedure from your Tech Tips section:

You open it to drain the bowl. Then leave it open and put your clear tube on it.

Is this "clear tube" an item I need to procure or is it part of the carb?

Try to keep it level underneath and run it up along side the side of the carb towards the front.

Is this refering to the clear tube?

The clear tube referred to is something you will need to get. It is not part of the carb.

I use RC model gas tubing, which seems to work well. Does not matter what color as long as it is see thru so you can see the gas level in it.

The last part you asked about does refer to the clear tubing. You are going to need to hold that tubing up against the carb, in a vertical position to test your float level. The fuel in the clear tube will rise to the same height of the gas in your float bowl, so make sure the open end of the tube is above that level to avoid having the clear tube spill its contents out onto your engine.

Is the Float Adjustment Procedure necessary if my 03 R* doesn't have symptoms of a too high level? I'm preparing to install a ported manifold (from Buck) and Big Sucker air filter and rejet (Barons kit) and check the float adjustment was the first item on my to-do list from Odo. Just wondering if I could skip a step, or do it anyhow.

Another question: What is "RC model gas tubing"? I'm a novice when it comes to wrenching, so please bear with me.

Thanks,

Tony

Two avenues of advice can get interesting. Odo is tops in my book, he also likes to make sure everything is baselined when he does a job (another words he really does it right).

You don't have to check your float bowl level, but when rejetting a carb it can get pretty easy to knock the floats out of adjustment. I am sure that is why Odo recommended it. But you do not have to do it. I usually don't unless some symptom of a high level is present.

FWIW... A lot of them are off by some small amount.

RC = Radio Controlled. For example a Radio Controlled model airplane or car. The gas tubing they use is perfect, and small enough in diameter to fit fairly snugly on the drain vent at the bottom of our carbs.

Don't ever worry about the questions you ask here Tony. Thats what this site is all about
