I got it all back together and it's running much better but it's rich now. PMS is about 1/2 turn out.
Well, here's what I found: The Balkamp o-rings had swelled and were probably 1/4" longer than when I put them on a few weeks ago. I used the Hylomar along with new oversized o-rings on the manifold and I think that totally sealed any vacuum leaks that I had. The hylomar will actually firm up a bit as the solvent evaporates. If anyone else decides to use it I just read something on the Permatex website. The solvent will soften the o-rings unless you let the Hylomar set for about 20 minutes to let the solvent evaporate and THEN put the o-rings into the groove. So I may be replacing the o-rings again.
For the float level I used Doc's thread showing a few different ways of measuring. I ended up using the measurement of 7mm with the carb upside down and the float resting on the needle. Which is well lower than the Odo method. The Odo method says the flange on the float should line up at halfway up the tower. 7mm above the mating surface sets the float 4-5mm lower than that. Now I'm wondering if I'm too low on the float or if I just need to go up on the pilot jet. (By the way, I initially set up a jig to hold the carb level similar to what Curt shows on his website. Every time I checked using the vinyl tube method it always showed the level at 8-10mm above the mating surface no matter where I put the float level.)
Anyway, guess I'll leave it till next weekend... maybe.
