|
|
Hi Doc I am burning a little lean, my main is 175 DJ, stock pilot and mixture out 3 and 1/4, do the stars normally burn a little lean, its working good, no poping or backfires. My next step up on the DJ kit is a 190, what do think. I an running VH long shots and the air box is the one of the trimuph spitfire we addapted, no air restriction.
Thanks
Charlie

So .... why do you think it's lean if it's "working good, no poping or backfires"?

Does it sound like the first description? Plugs in my opinion don't tell enough of the story to base changes on. If the plugs are in with other indications then I would think about changing something.

Tough to tell without seeing it but it sounds OK to me. It's also not that easy to 'read' a plug properly and then base jet settings on it.
Although the ceramic is where you would read the condition of the main jet, you need to look down to the base of the ceramic not the top. The ceramic in not glazed?
At the settings you have (for Halifax), I doubt that you are too lean. If you are uncomfortable then as Cougar suggested - move one up on the main to the DJ 180.

Your right Doc, the bike is working great and I should leave well enough alone, the ceramic is clean no glazing I put the plugs in new before I left for laconia and when I got there I checked them, same thing ,ceramic clean and the top of the electrode was a greyish white, I turned out the mixture 1/4 turn, took it for a ride for the day and when I came back, the front plug was the same but the rear plug was sooting up on the ceramic, so I turned it back in a 1/4. When I got back home I checked them again ceramics clean and the top of the electrode greayish to white, very clean.
Cougar, I will take your advice and order a 180 main just to keep on hand.
Thanks for the advice guys
Charlie
