I ran into the same problems a couple weeks back. On the highway bike started to lose power in 5th gear. Later that day bike got really bad popping and unable to hold idle. I had the carb cleaned out as a precaution, changed the plugs and changed the fuel filter. Dealer told be the bike was running too rich so I backed off the carb adjustment a 1/4 turn from the original three turns out, as mentioned in the jet kit. The bike ran fine for a couple days and then I rolled off a quick acceleration and the bike was sputtering and the exhaust seemed to girgle. I have no idea what to do now.

Mine does that too don't have the PMS dialed in right. Mine is getting better I changed the PMS setting today and it is better. Just takes time to find that sweet spot and get rid of the SVS symptoms. It is the )% thing Matts bike purred like a kitten at idle today not near as hard to dail in as mine.

After due consideration, I decided to start with the easy answer first, bad gas while on the raod...I filled up with the "good" gas from a station I trust and still stuttering...

I then tried adding STP Gas treatment with the tank of "good" gas...the problem got better but still a bit of a stutter...I next ran (now running actually) a tank of 93 octane to see if that had any effect, yes I know hi-test is bad but I figured one tank is not going to kill the bike...the high octane and STP treatment have the bike runing almost normal...

I stopped by the dealer today to make an appointment so I can get the bike 100% for the Maine trip in August. Service manager tells me that they are seeing more and more of this problem and it is being caused by the ethanol gas now being used in our area...seems it does the job of cleaning the fuel system very well but tends to leave deposits that can gum up the jets...he told me I was on the right track with the STP but to use the Techron Fuel System cleaner...they have been getting good results and the vast majority of the people calling and bring bikes in for this problem have not need any service following the treatment. BTW, I have dome business with this dealership for 29 years and do not think he was BSing me just to get me out the door...he'd have no reason not to take my money and do the carb cleaning, etc.

I am going to use the Techron and will let you guys know what happens. He recommends using it every 5 or 6 tanks just to be sure...especially so since the f&^%wits are now mandating that August 1st we go from 10% to 15% ethanol

Hey Ted

I've been running 10% eth since I got the Roadie with no problems. Did they already go to 15%? Hope you don't have to keep buying additives from now on.

Ted, a couple weeks ago I was having some "detonation" (pinging) stuff going on. It was only happening at wide open throttle and with temps in the low to mid 90's. I actually found out it was doing that as a fluke since I rarely run around at WOT. I spoke to Doc and Odo (Joel) about it off board. They both had good advice but one thing was an easy try to fix the problem and that was running some different gas and quit using the couple ounces of MMO I'd recently been running. I usually fueled up at a station near my house so I started going to a different station and I quit using the MMO. I did run one tank of Mid Grade as an experiment, don't know if that was helpful or not. Anyhow, it seems that changing stations (and brands of gas) helped my situation since I don't have the problem anymore. I know this doesn't have much to do with your problems but I really think we're getting some funky fuel these days from the suppliers. We run ethanol enhanced fuel year round here, or at least that's what the pumps say.

I agree with you Roadie. I've always tried differnt gas until I find what my bikes like and if something goes haywire out of nowhere going somewhere else to get gas is one of the first things I try. Just a couple weeks ago I tried Holiday Blue Planet gas for the first time and the Roadie loves it.

It MIGHT be all hipe, but my girl loves shell, you know, the one that's supposed to keep your valves cleaner!(That certainly can't hurt the SVS bikes)BB

I ran Citgo in mine. Overnight it seized control of all the tools in the garage and made them property of the state. Both of my cars are now socialist/communist. The lawnmower protested and I have not seen it since.

Sorry - bad Hugo Chavez joke. One day I hope to actually post something of merit.

WhiteStarNC--

Humor is of especially high merit--especially when it's good. And that was good...very clever. +1!

Hey WhiteStar

I agree with RK. Anyone can point out the PMS screw. A good laugh is rare. And that was a good laugh.
