samson pipes and rejetting 4 Years, 5 Months ago
I just bought a 2000 Roadstar and have installed the full length Samson Warlord slasher pipes. I've oredered the BAK from Baron's. I am going to put in either the 2" or the 1 3/4 baffles, as I have purchased both to get the sound I'm looking for.
With the kit I will be getting a new titanium needle and I would guess new main jet(s). Does the pilot circuit have to be adjusted or rejetted as well?
THanks in advance for any help you can provide.

I have the same pipes and Barons BAK. I rejetted the needle jet kit, the main jet, and the PMS. I have also removed all the emissions stuff. FWIW, I have had both the 1 3/4" and the 2" baffles. I liked the 1 3/4" baffles better but have recently switched over to the HP+ baffles and they have a much nicer sound. Regardless of the baffle choice, these are still loud pipes!

thanks for the reply Greg,
I did the same as you and went for the 1 3/4 baffles, ok but not as low and throaty as I had hoped for. I was astounded at the difference of the BAK Air Kit from Baron's. It helped with the pull of the bike in every shift range, for sure!!! I found that the instructions and the rejetting process were a breeze and I had much help from a good friend that had done the same!! I would recommend heartily anyone who wishes to do this yourself to try the Baron's kit for sure. I do like the Samson pipes, but they are somewhat loud, but the smaller baffles do hellp.
take care all brothers and sisters in the ride.............dickster

Greg, how different do your slashers sound open versus the HP Baffles. I put these pipes on my 04 about a month ago. I installed them with the torque cones offered by Samson. Although I've not run the pipes without the cones, I assume they sound very similar to open pipes. Can you describe the difference the baffles made versus open pipes.

Thanks,

Loy

Loy . . .

I went without baffles for a few days between trying different baffles. They were loud and I really disliked the sound on decel. The absence of back pressure really made the pipes sound ugly.

The HP baffles give a sharper rap rap rap and I have even gotten compliments on the sound. Of course, the Goldwing folks think I am too loud. With earplugs in, and/or with my 3/4 helmet, I think they are just fine. On the other hand, with a half helmet and no earplugs, my ears start to hurt after a while.

Hey Greg,

Thanks for the reply. I think I'll try the HP baffles myself. Where did you buy and what was the part number if you don't mind? Hey BTW, did you notice that the clamp that seals the last piece of tailpipe on both piples doesn't completely seal? Or did you use hi-temp gasket sealer there or what? Until I got that section completely sealed the sound on decel was very objectionable. Was surprised what a difference a tiny leak would make.
I really like the look of the pipes, but want baffles for long cruises (of course you understand why!

Thanks again,

Loy . . .

No, I haven't noticed any leak but I am not very smart!

I bought the "HP-Plus Baffles 2 Inch" at PhatPerformanceParts.com. It is part number DS-202032 on their site. They are $37.95 plus tax/shipping for a pair. I like dealing with Matt and Cary. A couple of real straight shooters and one of them rides a Road Star so I get good advice on how to spend lots of money.

Because these are 2 inch baffles going into a 2 1/4 inch pipe, I wrapped the end on each in aluminum tape to build it up to a snug fit.

I actually got a compliment this past week on the sound of the bike. That is a first! I get lots of compliments on the looks but never the sound.

Good luck!

Hey Greg,

Looks like it's a Roadstar internet day today with the eye of the storm getting ready to hit Jacksonville, NC. No riding today.
I started noticing a little bit of film on my transfer case and realized that there is a slight exhaust leak at the last joint where the tailpipes clamp. I know tightening won't help because I actually broke one of the bolts trying that! If you don't mind, next time you crank her up reach down and see if you don't have a slight leak at both of these clamps. If you do that will lead to some undesirable decel noise.

Thanks for the info on the baffles. Think I'll give them a shot. Love the sound of these pipes but on a long ride mine come with earplugs. Love the look of em.

Good ridin' to ya,
