Jetting with Samson Warlord Slashers 1 Year, 1 Month ago
Does anyone have these pipes that has done jetting without baffles in the pipes?
I was advised by the tech guy at Kuryakyn that it would be difficult to tune without back pressure. I made a set of homemade baffles but ended up removing them as it killed my awesome rumble. He also said performance would suffer without the baffles. I'm still debating which kit to buy, I kind of liked the look of the Kuryakyn Twin Velocity cover, but found out it stuck out further than stock. And last, is the MPG going to drop off if I re-jet without the baffles? Thanks for any input.

i have the same set up with a k&n air filter and went pumpless . i had my local yahmaha dealer rejet the carb. you will not loose mpg you will gain mpg. last time i checked i got 49.5 miles per gallon but i didn't run any faster than 65, if you go faster than 65 your mpg will drop to the 34-38 mpg range. and last but not least don't baffle those pipes they sound great !!

if all you are changing is the pipes, then no need to jet. Take off the AIS, and tweak the pilot screw out about 1/4 turn. You are not letting any more in, just having the exhaust gasses escape faster. And yes, no baffle will cause you to lose Tq. you need to have something for back pressure. there are items you can get to provide back pressure.

The bike is running great as is. It came with the warlord slashers. I want to re-jet for the extra hp & tq. & a little bit better throttle response. I'm thinking now Barons BAK for the tech support, since they probably have dealt with my specific configuration before. I currently have the slashers, all else stock. I am ordering the AIS removal kit.

you are not going to achieve anymore hp or tq by jetting without opening up the air intake. all you will be doing is going richer than it needs to be, and fouling plugs, excessive carbon build up and possibly even a loss of power. More gas does not equate to more power unless other factors are taken into account. Max tq is achieved at a air/fuel ration of 13.5, 12.5 does not increase tq, it just wastes gas when it is in that tq band, A higher air/fuel ration is needed for wot to aid in cooling the heads and detonation though. And duration has nothing to do with fuel, the max tq band is dependent of the cam design.

By opening the intake, wouldn't that occur with the BAK? Or are you saying larger carb? I want to re-jet with the BAK. My concern is the lack of back pressure making it hard to dial in the free flowing Warlord Slashers if it doesn't come with a big enough jet. Thanks guys for the replies.

yes, you will have to rejet with the BAK, and it does come with a jet kit if you buy new, at least they use too. Your mention of the BAK for Barons tech support was confusing. was not sure if you meant that you were going to go with the after market air kit,

I have the Samson Slashers and the Baron's BAK, and love the combo. Sounds great, runs pretty good, but am thinking I am still a bit rich as I get around 35 mpg and the pipes are sooted up. Main is 172.5, PMS is out 3 1/2, and the pilot needle is stock, I do have the samson baffles in the pipe, though. I haven't pulled the needle out to check the clip location, but am thinking it is probably set up just as the instructions for the BAK lay out, as the main jet and PMS are exactly as the instructions say. I'm going to start playing with the mix soon, to see if I can get it dialed in a little better. Hopefully I will have a little more complete information at that point.

I am running sampson longshots, bak,my jetting for a year or so was 190dj stock, pilot 4th clip. bike ran good, but sooted pipes and was a bit rich, I swapped out main with a mikuni 175, and iridium plugs, better roll on response,no more sooting of pipes, much better. there is a big difference in our elevation though.

Well, I put in the Baron BAK, added some baffles (actually a 4" muffler reducer pipe), and removed the AIS. To my amazement, it actually started. The bike is running choppy especially from a stopped position. I have to feather the clutch and add throttle to keep it from stalling. I went with the 172.5 jet and 3 1/2 on the PMS. Where do I start to adjust it?? Thanks guys.
