Idiot Jetting question of the year 11 Months, 1 Week ago
Alright so I've read the stickies, I've read the tech articles, and I'm still scared out of my mind. All in all I think I just need to take the carb out and monkey around with it to learn how it works correctly and just mess with it but I'm trying my best to remove the carb, clean the hell out of it put it back in and have the bike run like glass (HA!)

So my question is this, I have a BAK and V+H longshots, when I did the BAK i didn't rejet or mess with my PMS (bought the bike new, 06 midnite star for reference) So according to the sticky I should try and do a 180 jet. Where do I get a good jetting kit........ Any good brands? Should I just buy from Mikuni? How many total jets on the bike am I going to need to change out? Are there more than one? Should I leave PMS where it is?

Also I have the AIS removed. I know alot of this has already been covered I'm just looking to order my carb rebuild kit and jet kit from the same store (possibly same kit?) Thanks for the hand holding as always guys.... I swear I'm just going to fuel inject this thing...

The size jets you use will depend on what brand kit you use. If you use a Barons kit you will use different size jets than if you get a Speedstar kit or a Dyno kit. So decide what kit you are going to get first.

Yeah that's kind of what I'm asking, is one "better" than another? or a better company to buy from? Also do any of these companies sell rebuild kits WITH jets? I'm assumming my gaskets are going to be total junk when I take this thing apart to clean it out

There is only 1 gasket (O-Ring type) on the float bowl and you can reuse it. I would get either the Speedstar or Barons. I have the Speedstar and it works just fine. Look at my profile

What's with removing the AIS I keep reading about? How does this actually help?

the AIS dumps a predetermined amount of air into the exhaust to burn hydrocarbons (EPA rules and regs) but with after market exhausts it is not needed since they breather more. In most cases leaving it on with after market pipes can cause excessive decel popping, back fire, and flames coming out the exhaust. none of which are desirable. does nothing as far as performance.
