Sounds like that gives me a good excuse to buy that new exhaust system

http://www.phatperformanceparts.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=62-1822

From WOT I get a loud backfire (gun shot from the pipes) and there may be a few small ones to follow.

From a cruising decel, I get the small ones. My brain keeps telling me it is too rich. Guess not.

I hate to take it to the Dyno shop..Last time (1100 Shadow with Hypercharger) I had it running great but I wanted it perfect. $400 later they dented my tank. (yes, I made them get me a new one)

Then it had a nasty surge at highway speeds. Ended up tuning myself and finally got it right. (no more Hyperchargers)

Once again, Thanks a million for all the help troubleshooting.

Doc, not to drive you crazy having to answer another jetting question but I want to make sure that I get this right for my 05. I am having tons of carbon build up and svs problems. After reading through this I think I know why. I followed the instructions in the DJ kit and it sounds like that was a bad idea. I have the Dj 195 main, dpjm037 pilot jet with needle on the 4th clip and pms at 3 out. Thunder Hurricane air filter, ais removed, hackerpipes true duels. It needs choke for a 1/2 a second to get started then I can push it right in and it will idle good enough to warm up. I also think that is a sign of a rich set up. Any help would be much appreciated.

Another jetting question ....

Replace the 37 pilot with the stock 35 pilot.

Change the main from DJ195 to a DJ 180.

Put the clip on 5 and try the WOT test.

Once the main is OK, then drop the clip to 4 and test it out.

Re:Jetting the 1700 Question..... 1 Year, 3 Months ago
This has probably been covered somewhere in this forum. I just purchased a '05 Roadstar
and have determined that it has Cobra Loboy pipes, hot ignition module, jet kit, and air box. I bought it from a sea level location. I ride around town at 2500' ele. The problem is that it kind of blubbers from light to light with very little throttle applied. Does anyone know where I can start? Thanks in advance

Sea level is lean. Richer the higher you go.

Need more info on what you have. What air kit? What is your jet settings? Who's jets? What is the needle set at? What is "Blubbers"?

Blubber is "runs like crap" and appears to be running rich...soot in the pipes. I need to delve into it to find out what is actually there. I think it is a speedster air kit, not sure of the jet kit yet, or the ignition.

Since it's been jetted the PMS will be open. You could try going in a 1/4 turn for now until you find out what you have.

I did that a little earlier and haven't had a chance yet to try it. Thanks, and I will try to get more details of what I actually have tomorrow.
