dont know what to do 10 Months, 4 Weeks ago
Couple weeks ago i posted the article" rejetted", got a barons kit rejetted with the 167.5 needle clip on 4 ,pms 3 turns, tested mpg got 43 , i thought great dead on , so i fill up again today 1.3 gal for 42 miles equal to 34 mpg, it was mostly in town putt putt, does this make a 10 mpg difference or could i move my clip to the 3 groove to lean out some, moving one clip space wouldnt hurt the engine would it?

3rd groove is too lean on a barons needle, clip position has has very very little affect on mpgs below 70mph. 43miles is not the best way to calculate. you want to get an accurate read, do 100 miles plus and hold a steady throttle.

Like erbman said...you need to go 100 plus miles to get an accurate reading. Just in case....1 thing I did awhile back that screwed my milage up.... I filled up while setting on the bike (straight up). The next time I filled up it was on the kickstand.. it took alot more to fill .... couldnt figure how I went from 42 mpg to 29

Run a couple of tanks and keep track of the mileage and gallons then average it out. My trip to the M&G in Beloit was 1700 miles. I averaged 47.6 over that distance.

But you don't have to go that far

How many turns out did you set the pilot screw at? And yes, there could be anywhere from a 5 to 10mpg difference from holding a steady throttle compared to city and doing light to light get up and go take off's as well. There is only a small window of throttle keeping the needle in the cruise area, and it doesn't take much to upset this balance.

as well as head winds, roads (windy or straight), temps , humidity all play a role in mpg's

When I plan to do a mpg test, I'm on a straight road, and I will hold my throttle steady for min 100 miles, yes, a mundane ride, but fairly accurate. my last big test was 149 miles at 65mph, then another 121 miles at 80mph, was heading back to Ga at the time from Tampa Fl. so I had the stretches of rd to hold speed.
