tell ya what, send me the labor dollars it would cost, this will pay for my gas back and forth probably a couple nights in a motel too, and I'll do it for free! lol

so lets see
take 3 screw off dash and remove dash (hang over bars)
remove rear tank bolt and remove tank
3 min's ok 5 for a couple slugs of brew

loosen 2 nuts for throttle cables, pull cables off brkt
loosen carb/manifold clamp
remove fuel line
pull carb off bike
6min 42sec

remove 4 screws from float
replace main jet
close up
17min due to soft screws that got butchered and either have to slot them, get them off with a vise grip, or had to cut the heads completely off
oop's, forgot the 2hrs finding an ACE Hardware that had screws you could use

remove 2 screws top cap (watch for big spring)
remove slide
remove needle stopper (friction fit) pull straight up so to not break one of the fingers, a little saliva to replace
remove needle, replace needle and clip, spacer and washer on new needle
3hrs due to looking on hands and knees for that small spring that flew out when you pulled the friction fit stopper.

no issues
an hr maybe an 1.5 hrs

Oh yah, forgot to mention that... I've got *27* ! Yah, I know It's a bit excessive, not to mention pretty cramped between my legs and it rules out any lane splitting, but I've got size inferiority issues. I guess it would also explain my poor gas mileage.

Thanks everyone, I'm so glad I've got this place to turn to, it certainly puts things in perspective. Frankly, it amazes me these shops stay open the way they screw their customers. You can bet your arse I won't be going back to him any time soon.

...Reading through the carb articles now.

Damn, I better talk to the boss. Our shop only charges an hours labor ($82.00) per carb for re-jetting (Charlotte, NC).
At 7 hours per carb, we could make over $2200.00 for re-jetting a 4 banger. Caviar and Dom Perion for everyone.

I remember my first carb... yes, I was a bit frightened about messin' it up, but I got through, it worked great, and I've done many others since. They're not complicated, and I did it all because I read the helpful info right here on the Clinic.

Long live RSC!

7 hours? You can do it. Less than $5 for jets right from your local Yamaha dealer. Stock 35 pilot 165 main. Easy. Good luck. Any questions, there is a lot of people on here that will help. I did it.

The first carb I did was a 2 barrel on my old 76 ford bronco. not bad. 12 years later the next carb I did was the bank of 4 mikunis on my suzuki bandit 1200. studied them, read a lot of online stuff, printed out what I needed. Roadstar carb has to be a piece of cake now! Go for it. You'll feel better getting to know your bike inside and out!

I think the one thing everybody is leaving out is the sense of reward you get from doing your own work and how it increases the pride in your ride when you know she running clean and mean and it was all your doings.

I am a relatively new rider (3 or 4 yrs) but no stranger to a wrench and screwdriver, to me riding a bike goes hand in hand with working on the bike, the best and safest riders I know understand their bike and how it works.

Lol maybe it's just a guy thing
