Adjusting PMS without disassembly? 1 Year, 3 Months ago
Hi Fellas--

Okay, the 35 Pilot Jet is back in and the bike is once again getting about 44 mpg (up from 38 mpg with the 37.5)...runs pretty good but seems a bit starved. I want to adjust the PMS and remember reading a post that said it can be done with the carb still on the bike...I will be darned if I can find that post Does anyone recall how it is done or have a link to the post?

TIA, Ted

I just use one of those small slim short screwdrivers. The ones that are about 3 inches long. I find the screw with a finger of my left hand, hold the screwdriver in my right, and just put the tip of the driver against my left finger and that guides it right in. Hope that makes sense A lot eaisier than trying to work in a mirror for me anyway.

So there's enough room in there for a jewelers screwdriver! I was thinking I'd need to buy one of those stubby ones. Thanks Musky!

BTW, I even figured out to mark the screwdriver so I can easily count the number of turns...getting smarter in my old age

Regards, Ted

You can use a jewlers driver if you have one with a big enough blade so it doesn't spin in the slot. I have one of those but I can never find it. You know when you buy a 8 piece set of drivers and you get a small flat blade and a small phillips that you never use cuz there too small? Well here's where you can use it. Hell, you could use a flat piece of metal if it's all you have.

Obviously you want the bike to run well, but yes they are.

I buy a 25 buck digital. It last 3 years. Then I buy a new one. But I do replace the band or spring doodads if they break. Does that count?

Running stock with Stage One pipes I was getting 42-45 on a regular basis cruising around the backroads and small towns in my area...close to 50 if not 50 on the road...I started getting some hestitation/stuttering and decided to go the whole enchilada (Cobra LoBoy Shotguns, K&N Air Kit and Dynajet kit)...after installing the 37.5 pilot jet my mpg dropped dramatically so I swapped back to the 35 and it went up to 43.9 as of today's fill...however, the engine is now stuttering a little again and I am betting it is just a bit too lean as the 37.5 had it just a little too rich. By adjusting the PMS I am hoping to fatten it up just a tad and it will be perfect

I bet if I had a 36 pilot jet that the bike would be absolutely perfect and the PMS would not need adjusting...let the tinkering begin

Regards, Ted
