My jetting story 4 Years, 7 Months ago
Hi, everybody
This is my first time here, i get alot information form you guys, thanks.i will tell my jetting story and SORRY!! for my English too (i'm from Thailand )but i'll do my best.
I've just own roadstar 2000 for 4 months it's kph in speed guage.
No ais(last owner may took off)and 2 to 1 head + no name muffler.
One day I opened my carb to clean ,The 4 bolts very soft, so I have to saw the 4 bolts for flat head screw dirver.
142.5 maint jet!!!! 35 pilot 2 1/2pms turnout(No small bass cover)
that what i found.
I very confuse, cause your guys here talk about 165,182.5 for stock. But i got 142.5(mikuni sure) so i must be super lean.
But it ran ok no bad sign at all(just knocking sound before i cleaned carb bowl have found a lot of (like mud stuck at float tank).
Once i got 155 mikuni from a guy at Harley shop(pay a can of bear) after replaced with hope shold be better but it feel sputter at 1/2 up of throttle. Later i think about tps and yeah!!i found it!!
The tps shows 900-1k , i adjust till got 6xx-7xx ohm.
The test run after tps adjusted is a big diffrent.Bike act like run out of gas at mid-high rpm. I think, i must go right way now.
But i can not find the 165 jet , so i drill the 155 with the 198 diameter drill ,i think now i got about 200 dyno or about 185-190 mikuni jet.(I can not find smaller drill)
Test run again WOT test sputter if i fast twist from 1/2 up.
Now what next i think. More air, the only one idea that time.
I took off air filter(now K&N inside), and I drill the air box 1 inch 3 holes with hope that i can lean some gas by get mor air.

I adjust the accell pump (nut under screw all th way down)
Now no sputter at all slow or fast twist and at WOT roll back 1/8 nothing seem the same speed.
but few small surge at mid range.
next step i will move needle clip to 4 and see what happend.
thanks again for all information here ,I understand how carb work from here. and sorry again with my English.

Welcome to the Clinic sukit.

Your English is better than my Thai. I like a country where the currency standard is beer.

It's interesting to hear that it ran (even though badly) at 145. Some people think they are too lean with a 170.

It sounds like you have logically worked through the steps. I wish you luck.

Welcome to the clinic sukit

There has been a few posts lately on the RSR about people who are running the smaller main jets with no problems. Did you check your float level after you cleaned everything up?

Welcome Sukit. Here the universal language is R*. We all speak it and we're a pretty diverse group.

Hi, everybody

My test ride report.

2into1 head pipe + no name muffler
k&n filter + 3 hold 1 inch drilled the cover
35 pilot + 3.5 pms turn out
stock needle + 5th clip
Main jet about 200 dyno(I drilled 155 mikuni with the 1.98mm diameter drill)

After I moved clip to 4th ,Bike run better but still have surging at mid range.
So ,I moved clip again to 5th(stock fatty needle)
and now my bike runs great ,no surging ,no stumpble at all.
My fuel / Kilometer
about 15k/L (5th clip) Bike pull great!!
about 15.5/L (4th clip) small surging at mid range
about 16/L (3th clip) surging at mid range

Now ,I love the feeling of bike when i twist the thottle , bike pull much harder then before.
I think my fuel/Kilometer can be better if I ride smooter beacuse ,after the last carb setting ,
my riding style have chaged ,i alway twist the thottle,i like the pull feeling .

Next time I 'll tell my float level experience,
for me riding is easier then typing.
good luck everyone,
