Fuel Issue leading to Electrical Issue 1 Year ago
Started the bike this morning. No problem. Rode it outside the gate, left it running to close and lock the gate. Got back on. The bike died. Realized I had turned the petcock off.

Restarted the bike. It ran for about 2 seconds, and then died again. That continued for about a dozen attempts. Each time, the bike ran for less and less time before dying. Apparently, it's not getting fuel.

Now, I'm only getting just a 'click'. Apparently, I've worn down the battery trying to start it.

I'm recharging the battery now on 'boost'.

Anyone with any ideas?

Nope. Not pumpless.

I was thinking that the fuel pump has gone out.

I'll need some detail, tatinguy. I'm a novice at this stuff.

Still only getting a 'click' when I try to start, so battery might be dead as a doornail.

yup bat is prob dead try a good trickle charge if wont take a charge might need to replace it but take your fuel line off your petcock at the tank and then inlet at the carb then get a length of hose with a inline filter just long enough to connect directly to the carb inlet with little slack so as to keep it a down hill run all the way with no kinks if its the pump your bike will start and run atleast then you know id highly suggest getting rid of your pump imo

Thanks!

Going hunt for a battery now. That'a an adventure in Thailand when looking for a 20 Amp battery for a big bike.

Had the battery recharged. Installed it. When I turned the key, I didn't hear the usual ticking of the fuel pump. Tried to start. Got a half-turn, and it quit.

Tried a second and third time and only got a 'click'. At least now I know I have power.

Looks more and more like the fuel pump.

Rico, I don't know if you've already narrowed it down to the battery, based on the other thread regarding the AGM, but you have a battery problem. More then likely a bad cell. Here in the states, most auto parts stores have a tester that can run a diagnostic on the battery, and not just charge it up.
If the battery was good, and the pump gone, the motor would have turned over, but not started, until you ran the battery flat again.
When a battery goes, most of the time it'll go right now. Working one moment, and not the next. In the old days, it seemed like we got more of a warning. Maybe it was because I grew up in cold country, and as the temps dropped, you got the early signs of failure, before the battery just wouldn't work at all.
As for the advice about the spare fuel line to put in place of the pump, that's good info, and you should have one of those in your bag along with some pliers(to release the clamps) so you can bypass the pump if needed, anytime your out and about. A two foot piece of 5/16 fuel line, would save the day. Add the filter if you want. There is a screen in the carb inlet where the fuel line connects, that will work as a temporary filter, and there are screens on the petcock in the tank.

Yep, I am pretty sure the battery is gone. Odometer lights up, etc., but I realize it doesn't take much for that to happen.

What would I have to do to go pumpless? I want to at least read up on it and be prepared to consider that while waiting for the battery -- which will be three days coming out of BKK.

On a good note, I finally located a motorcycle lift in BKK on Monday with a 640 kg capacity. Ordered it today. It'll be here Monday, too. It'll be like Christmas here.
