New Bike 2 Years, 9 Months ago
Hi all,

Newbie here and I just bought a '99 R*! Sweet ride with lots of aftermaket bits...Barons BAK, BUBs 2 into 1, AIS removal, fuel pump relocation, custom paint, and chrome galore. The problem I have is that I bought it from the previous owner's widow and she did not know much about what he had done to the bike. It came with most of the parts he had removed plus an extra set of (I think) Cobra slash cut mufflers for the original exhaust. Unfortunately, the Barons jetting kit was not in the stuff that came with the bike and I think its running rich. Less than 40 MPG and backfiring on hard decel. Anyway, what I like to know is what is a good starting point for this setup for jetting. I live in the Seattle area at sea level. Also, I plan on taking a vacation to Colorado in the summer, is there a single jetting I can use between here and there or should I expect to have to change it? I know at least one pass I'm going over is over 10000'

Thanks,
Ken

back fire on hard decel doesn't mean you are to rich, mine does it and it's just this side of lean. I'd say (now I'm no expert on older R*'s I'm just paroting odo on the delphi site) 167.5 mikuni jet baron's needle on the 3rd or 4th slot pms 1.75 turns out, try it, see if it fails the WOT test, and find the delphi site where you can talk directly w/ ODO he is the carb guru ... ~Guido
edit: oh ya, check your plugs to see how you mix is doing

Post edited by: davehrn, at: 2006/04/10 21:04
