Went to See the Wizard 11 Months, 2 Weeks ago
|
|
Went and spent most of today with Curt and got a schooling on Roadie Carbs. Learned a whole lot and the Roadie is pulling real strong. I've got to tweak the PMS a little to get rid of the popping on decel.
Curt, you are a very giving and special human being. Thank you very your time this day. More importantly, thank Cheryl for allowing me to take up your day and for lunch. If I were you, I would keep her.

Sounds like curt is the man on carbs. I really need to get a hold of him, and see what he can do for mine.

Joe I got to keep her she is the only woman that will put up with me and my mess. I was thinking after you left your bike pulls so strong that you may have a Dyna 3000 or a Speedstar ignition module in it. Have you ever looked to see? Also check your pipes where the mufflers attach to the head pipes and also where the pipes bolt to the heads for leaks. That may very well be where your popping is coming from. Use an incense stick to check them with and watch the tip to see if it glows red from a leak. Let me know how it goes and if the popping goes away when you adjust the PMS.

Amazing the goofy things we use (incense sicks) to help tune up our rides. Will this go in the tech tips section?

I turned it 1/4 already and am still getting some popping. I will turn it another tomorrow. When we had the tank off, I didn't see anything that looked aftermarket. Likewise for around the fuse box.
I've never had a need for incense before. Not been my thing. I'll let you know.

I turned the PMS another 1/4 turn this morning w/o a significant change in the popping. I'm at 2 1/2 now. I will see about getting a stick and give it a test.

Well, I finally got ahold of some incense sticks. I am here to tell you that this trick really works. I have the Cobra Slash Cut Slip-ons. They are both leaking at the header pipe joint. Laying down and looking underneath, I can see the exhaust dust where the leaks are. I tightened both pipes as much as I dare (don't want to break the bolts). The popping is reduced, but not eliminated. When I came back in, I was able to tighten the bolts another 1/4 turn while they were hot. I'll check them tomorrow with the incense. It's almost 10PM and getting to late to be neighborly.
Assuming this doesn't totally eliminate the popping, any other suggestions?
