2009 Road Star "jerking" bewteen 80-110km/h 1 Year ago

This past winter I bought a 2009 Roadstar 1700 that has only 1600km on it. I installed Cobra Exhaust and a Power Commander. The bike sounds awsome but I've noticed that the bike seems to struggle between the 80 and 110 km/hr speeds.
I’m usually in fourth gear by then and it seems to be chocking (jerking) as if it’s struggling to get the fuel or air. I usually down shift in third but the RPMs are too high so needless to say cruising around at those speeds has been a bit annoying, as most of the time we’re cruising around those limits outside of the city.
I'm also averaging 30MPG on highway and city cruises, but I was expecting way better than this for a new bike. I'm at 2500km at the moment.
Looking forward to your 2 cents as to what should I do, as i want to improve the response from the bike within the 80-110km/h range and fuel economy.
Cherrios.
Ps... I've seen similar stories on this forum but I have very little experience in working on the engine. I apoligize for the lack of proper mechanical lingo...

My bike is carbed so I'm just throwing out a suggestion here, but one, have you removed the AIS yet? And two, when you installed the new pipes, did you re use the o2 sensors? I've seen several threads where dealers will sell new pipes and the pc and tell you not to run the o2s.

If you dont have the o2 sensors hooked up thats half your problem. the other is the power commander..either pay the bucks to have a certified dyno tech map it...or go the cheap route and remove it....

Mine is a 2000 with a carb..but I recently experienced a "bucking" around those speeds and I changed plugs...the plugs had a carbon build up and as I had just installed hard lowers I was suspect of "enough air" so I opened the vents and have a 500-600 kms on it since and no problem....it seems like it was a simple fix....

First make sure the O2 sensors are hooked up and installed in the pipes, both of them. It'll never run right without them. Second remove the aftermarket fuel controller. And finally the AIS won't make any difference in the performance working or not.
The O2 sensors on the Road Star are only used by the stock computer during cruise and it sounds like that's where you're having the problem.

+1 on removing the cobra power commander... We keep hearing issues from folks who've installed the power comannder.. Many folks on tthe RSC, myself included, have swapped out our pipes, added an airkit and are running absolutely perfect on the stock ECU.
I've got Speedstar drags and Hypercharger with my stock ECU on my 2009 and it runs like a champ. It does not run hot or lean.. eBay that Power Commander and get back on the highway!

I'm now trying to get an appointment to get the bike custom mapped cause I don't want to loose money on the PCV by putting it on Ebay. Plus, I'd have to get it back in the shop to get the setup back to stock, so it's either I pay 300$ to get it mapped or loosing about 100$ on the PC and 200$ on the labour to bring back to stock.
So I see that the O2 sensors are disconnected with the O2 eliminator (plugs) that came with the PC.
Can I just replug the O2 Sensors to the stock wiring harnest and leave everything as is on the PC?
Or will this cause the Stock ECU and the PC to !@#$ up with the performance even more.

Update:
So I brought it to get a custom map done.
The guy has been doing this for 20 years and has never seen the numbers of A/F in 4th and 5th gear.
Whatever we tried to do, the bike continues to dump fuel like crazy on highway speeds.
We were able to tune it well for good MPG in city cruising for the first three gears but that's it.
Now i'm trying to disconnect the dam PC and run it stock with the Cobra pipes.
But removing the power from the PC prevents the bike from starting.
I have reconnected the O2 sensors but the power commander is still active.
What's the risk of runing it with the PC and the O2 connected???
PS... I'm afraid the PC is defective and I'll have to pay another 200$ to get it removed all together...

You're not the first (and, probably not the last) to lose really good riding time messing with the fuel processors. Most everybody that has had them had issues and have removed them and gotten back to riding. Some with the proper knowledge/background to tune the bikes properly with them are doing fine. But, for the rest of us, it's more of a headache than it's worth.
Bite the bullet and pay to have it all removed and put back to stock. Bike will run strong. I'm 4 years into it and no issues running without one after exhaust and intake mods.
It'll cost you more to keep it in the long run.
