sluggish "turbo lag" type issue 11 Months, 1 Week ago

I am having an issue with my bike when I accelerating above 25% throttle so I am assuming it is a needle issue, but I'm not sure if i'm to rich or too lean. As the subject says it's almost like turbo lag or as if I'm in to high a gear. The bike is also running hotter then usual but it isn't back firing at all. Any suggestion as to which way to go (leaner or richer) would be helpful.

That really doesn't say much. Was this always an issue, or something that just started? Did you do some work on the bike and this issue started?

Sorry I should have given some background. I recently installed a ported intake (from SS customs) I also put on Bassani True Dual exhaust with HD touring mufflers. The problem did start a few weeks back but it has gotten worse since I did the changes. I also am using a Barron's BAK and the jet kit from it. The PMS is set 2 and 3/4 turns the jet is a 170 and the needle is set on 4 clip (from the blunt end). the bike is fine on a "soft" acceleration 25% throtle or less and it preforms normally.

If you have another silver washer like the one that's under the white plastic spacer on the needle, then you could move the clip to the third, and add the extra washer so there are two under the white spacer. It'd be a half a step leaner then where you are now. I think, that when you have the lag, and it plays catch up, its a sign of being to rich, but that's normally a main issue, and where you are, the 170 should be okay. If you don't have an extra washer, you could try a 167.5 main, and leave the clip in the 4th and see if that makes a difference.
Most of the tuning, tends to encourage you to work to the lean side until you have issues, and then back up to the last step.

Make sure the slide is actually going up and down. When I had the stock carb, I had to take the slide off and clean the face of it with alcohol and fine steel wool. Also, it won't work properly if you damage the rubber diaphragm on top of the slide. Another thing to check for is intake manifold leaks. Spray some WD-40 around the manifold when it's warm and idling making sure not to spray down the throat of the carb. If the idle changes or hesitates, you've got a leak. You shouldn't be having really noticeable problems with the setup you have currently if everything else is working properly.

if it were with the jetting, it would have started from the get-go. And the way you are jetted, don't think that is the issue. Is it like the engine is revving before the rear wheel catches up to speed? If so, sounds more like the clutch spring is not holding. The spring is a weak link, a number of options if this is the case.

If it's the clutch spring what is the best fix? And how much does it run?
