1600/1700 same carb? 11 Months ago
Good Evening Everyone,
I was just looking to confirm whether or not the 1600 carb is the same as the 1700? If so what are the differences between the two? and if not can a 1600 be used on a 1700 with jetting change? Hope this question makes sense lol. I am just wondering because I picked up a 1600 carb in much much better shape than mine and I just want to make sure I didnt waste the money.
Thanks for any feedback,
Chad

As far as I remember, Mostly just the Jets, feed the 1700 more Pilot and Main jet, fuel. Some of the carb guys will pop in and give more detail, if you need.

there are some other minor changes other than the main and pilot jets. Regardless, the carb will work.

Well mostly just visually i guess. My bike came from san diego and it was sitting for some time, there is alot of salt water corrosion and rust. The carb is no exception. All the tubes are covered in rust, just not sure how bad. It works fine right now but i need to rejet anyhow for my v&h longshots and barons bak, so i thought why not swap it out with the 1600that one since i have to rejet anyhow.

Micro fiche part #'s are a bit different but pics look identical. Like Erbman says there are some other minor changes other than the main and pilot jets. Regardless, the carb will work. That's how things get determined here. Trial, error and 'oh, what the heck'.

I tried a 99 carb on my 05 just for giggles. It didn't work you will need to take every jet out of the 1700 and put them in the 1600 including the starter jet. I still have my doubts but good luck. I ended up using parts from the 99 carb for guys on the clinic that needed parts for their carb and it has kept a LOT of bike on the road both here in the US and abroad.
