Here in south Georgia we don't need no stinkin carb heater, if it gets below 35 degrees more than 10 day during the winter folks start crying the world is coming to an end because h**l is freezing over.

i just seen a post on the rsr forum on the stock cv40 and hsr42 with dyno results. while the hp was just about the same (less than 1 hp) the torque was a little bit better but not by much at all. but what was very interesting is that both hp and tq came on much faster on the hsr42=======

HP/TRQ came on faster with HSR carb because its not a CV carb ,the CV carb is slower to react to WOT situation because slide is activated by vacuum .

But as you stated the slightly smaller stock 40 CV carb eventually gets there putting out same approx power on top end as the larger HSR42 did.

For the motorhead crowd from the 60's it's like the diff between a Holley carb with vacuum activated secondaries vs and Holley dbl pumper carb with mechnical operated secondaries, the mech sec carb hits harder & faster when the loud peddle in mashed to the floor but the vac sec eventually cathes up too!!/LOL!!!!

01StarRider52:

User Ricohoc is looking for a stock carb. Check the active thread on the right side, or the classifieds.

You can clear the shelf and help out a fellow Road Star rider as well.

Just a suggestion.

Re:To go HSR or not? 10 Months, 3 Weeks ago
OK, here's an update,

I found a nearly new HSR42-6 advertised on Fleebay for $200 and I bought it. It came Wed. and I dodn't think it ever had fuel in it. I started fabricating the mount plate for the TPS that night, I finished it up last night. I am waiting on an idle adjuster to finish up the install. Curt told me that I needed to put the carb on and get it running. After I have the idle set then I can set up the TPS and mark the carb shaft to cut the slot.

I had every thing temp mounted last night, same intake and same BAK. I had to ream the hole that the throttle cable mounts in to get it to work and put a little more bend in the elbow of the cable. I can hardly wait to get this thing back together, I was going to wait until the weekend but I got board last night. The only casulty last night was I nicked the yellow wire going into the TPS trying to get the screws out that mount it. I never could get the screws loose so I drilled the heads off. I have checked it out with a meter and all is good, but I am thinking that I want to replace it.

If the idle adjuster comes Sat. I should have every thing up and running by dark.

I want to thank Curt for all his help with this.

Well I got the 42 installed and running. I just got back from the first test ride, it runs great. It doesn't do all that ruff stuff at a 1/4 throttle or slower and throttle response is instant. I think it's a little fat on the big end but tuning will solve that. It has a 165 main and a 25 PJ, I don't know where the needle is just yet. I plan on doing a lot of reading in the tuning manual tonight. One thing I did notice on this ride was it seems to hit the rev limiter a couple mph later than before or maybe I'm just hopping.

If any one has any jetting advicenfor my 1600, I would be thankful.

somebody has been in there, the 165 is not the stock main 160 is. pilot jet is stock, which is fine, pump nozzle stock is the 70, most use the leaner 50 nozzle.
