Platinum Boarder Posts: 3515 Carburetor for R* that will take Ethanol? 10 Months, 3 Weeks ago   There have been rumors for the last several years about removing 91 octane regular fuel for sale in Thailand and forcing everyone to go to ethanol. The rumors have begun again with the idea that it will take effect in Oct/Nov this year. If so, my carb is going to be in big trouble. No current or past vehicle will run on strict ethanol without major modification and I don’t see a country scrapping its peoples transportation systems. Especially when that country has tried to boost ethanol production by encouraging private firms to set up plants to supply the domestic market and to fill growing demand in other countries. Key word: "rumor", and it's not strict ethanol. It's been floated out there every now and then over the past seven years that I've been here. Most Shell Oil stations here already only sell the 91 octane gasoline with the ethanol additive. Can't get 91 regular there at all, so it's not my imagination. I have often said that the hardship upon the Thai people would be astronomical for them to modify their vehicles if something like this was done even with an ethanol additive. I have used the 91 ethanol additive in my R* before, and I had both starting and running issues. Just trying to be prepared in the eventuality of the unexpected. I've got no idea, arty. All I know is that the Honda owners over here are going after US kits with ethanol-resistant material called Viton to replace their plastic/rubber carburetor parts and seals due to the gasohol with ethanol. It is the small engines and older boats that have so much trouble. I abandoned Stabill in favor of Star Tron http://mystarbrite.com/startron/ a few years back and it took care of the few issues I was experiencing. The biggest thing it does is Ethanol will bond with water and Startron breaks that bond so that water won't accumulate and gets burned. There is a lot of good reading on that link. Check it out. Good stuff. I had a weedeater that sat for almost two years with the same fuel in it in storage and I tried it just for the hell of it and it cranked on the fourth pull.
