Dynojet Settings 6 Years ago

Hello everyone. Maybe this will be of help to someone. After weeks of adjusting and riding I finally zeroed in my Dyno kit. I am running Cobra 2" Drag pipes with baffles cut in half, and stock airbox with four 1/2" holes drilled in the front for better air flow. PMS at 1 3/4 turns, needle at 3rd clip and 175 main jet. This gets you 40-45 MPG and runs pretty awesome on the 2006 ROAD*. Mind you all motors and carbs run a little differnt but hey this will give you a good start point. TECH TIP**** Leave off the bottom little metal washer on the needle that goes under the white nylon washer. Reason being it can get hung up on one of the grooves and then your needle will be off one or two grooves to the rich side. Ride Safe and God Bless. Like I said maybe this will help at least one person out there. Mike

Glad it worked out for you.

People need to realize that the carb takes a bit of fiddling. If you get it right on the first try then I'd buy a lottery ticket.

Thanks Topnotch, I think it would be cool if there was a link to where people who have their bikes dialed in could list the bike, year, all performance mods, elev, and carb settings, which would include what jet kit there using. That way a Road Star rookie like me could scroll down and find the closest match and start there. Just an idea.

Re:Dynojet Settings 6 Years ago
Very good comments, however, I have a different opinion. My 2006 Roadstar had a slightly similar ye different problem. I changed the air box to a Kuryakyn Hypercharger and Vance & Hines pipes. I installed the jets as described by Kuryakyn (1.3 Air Bleed, 37.5 Pilot, 182.5 Main). However, the bike was skipping and sputtering bad when cold. NOTE, this was at less than 1/4 throttle. Typical symtom was if you hold the thottle open just a little, let the engine rev and hold it steady, the bike would run smooth for about 30 seconds then you could hear it die off, spit, sputter. Let the throttle close for a second or two, open the throttle again, and the problem would repeat.

I started by changing the needle one notch lower. Opps, wrong way. Flooded it. Then, took out the air bleed and pilot and returned them to stock (2.0 air, 35 pilot). The problem became much more prevelant. Put the Kuryakyn jets back in (1.3 air, 37.5 pilot). Problem got much better, but still there, just a little bit. Went to the shop the next day, got a 40.0 Pilot jet, PROBLEM SOLVED. Bike runs great. Cold, hot, doesn't matter.

Note that I didn't change the main or the needle. Most of my driving is less than 1/4 throttle, which is where the pilot jet works. Running a 175 jet on the main may cause your bike to run too lean on the top end, noting that this jet works from 3/4 to full throttle.

My current setup is this:
2006 Yamaha Midnight Roadstar Silverado
182.5 Main jet
40.0 Pilot Jet
1.3 Air Bleed Jet
Kuryakyn Needle on 2nd groove.

Kuryakyn Hypercharger Airbox
Vance & Hines duel pipes.

VERY IMPORTANT: MY BIKE DOES NOT HAVE THE EMISSIONS STUFF ON IT. REMOVED WITH KIT DURING THE PIPE/AIRBOX INSTALLATION. This may be the reason the Jets suggested by Kuryakyn were not RICH enough.

Happy Motoring.
