Jetting Question 2 Years, 7 Months ago
I have an '05, Hard Krome 3" big straights, Baron's ported manifold, Dyna 3000 at 34A and 5000 and a Speedstar K&N air filter. I just ordered a BAK to replace the Speedstar filter. I had the jetting done by my dealer using an exhaust gas analyzer as I am not real comfortable doing jetting and the bike is running great. Will I be OK with the current jetting just switching to the BAK or will I need to have it redone? I hate to pay to have it jetted again just switching out the air filter.....

Your bike should run the same with the new filter. They both exceed the carb's intake abilities, so any differences should be fairly minor.

Thanks Gram!

Now that makes sense....Baron's, of course, was telling me I had to rejet using their kit as it is optimized for the BAK. I may not be a great wrench, but that didn't make sense to me. I assume it is just about getting the right mixture to the engine regardless of who's parts they are. I'm sure there are different quality levels in some parts but the Speedstar jet kit includes Mikuni OEM jets and a custom needle just like the Baron's kit does so I figure the parts are of good quality so all that's left is to make sure the set up is correct.

I was also hoping that what you indicated is exactly the situation being that both air filters deliver more than enough flow to the carb so that my existing jetting should still be OK. I'm gonna go ahead and just bolt on the new BAK and give her a go to see how it performs before just assuming I need to replace the jets and have it re-adjusted. Maybe I'll get lucky and she'll be just fine as it is.
