got a good one for you guys 4 Years, 4 Months ago
buddie has a HD 1540cc fatboy. he put V&H long shots on it and a BAK. I helped him jet the bike. now this one really has me wcked out. when i was tuning the PMS like i did on my roadie. i turned in the PMS it didnt stumble hears the funny part it still ran with it all the way in. shouldnt it of died or ran really bad. I would have thought so. well i set it a 2.5 turns out untill you guys can say what might be wrong. I put a 170 main, needle in the 3rd notch down from the top. witch is the 4th from the bottom. how ever you look at it. I was thinking its running off the main with the pms closed. the rpms did drop alittle but it idled fine. it runs fine idles fine. but still has me thinking something is too rich for it to idles with the pms all the way in thats 0 turns out. gona retry again in the morning. choke might be sticking or something.

The main is too large, BUT the PMS on a harley covers a much wider range of RPMs than a Roadie. IF it won't stumble when you turn it in the main is bleeding too much fuel at idle.

Kehein carbs are a lot like Mikunis (Kehein sued Mikuni for them being too similar). So they should essentially react the same when tuned correctly.

i'll try a 167.5 main. and put the stock needle in and see if that makes it run on the pilot. once i get it on the pilot setting then i'll go for the main then the needle if need be. thanks wouldnt have thought that the main could be bleeding at such a low rpm.

put the 167.5 main in the bike. still it will run with the pms turned all the way in the bike doesnt skip a beat. so i turned it out 2 turns anyway again. i then took it for a ride and did a plug chop. got her up in 4th gear ran it wot, till just before rev limit then pulled in the clutch and killed the engine while still being on the throttle. then pulled over pulled the number one plug. and its white on the tip and the rest of the plug is black. if i remember right white tip is lean on top and the rest means its rich down low. im starting to give up on this jetting deal. i havent this many problems jetting multi carbs on sport bikes, and on single cylinder bikes. but a single carb on a v-twin should be easy. this is really starting to push me over the edge. i even dropped the needle to the 2nd clip witch drop the needle down into the main to lean out the midrange. are HD's set up rich like the roadies from factory.

hey Speedy, I don't know what kind of carb is on the HD, but on my HSR carb, the pms screw works opposite from a stock roadie carb.. the further in the richer it gets..
