Jetting question 11 Months ago
Big Bear did a great little "Do I need to Jet" post a while back and it listed a great many combinations of pipes & intakes and if jetting might be required.

One combination that he didn't list was K&N Speedstar type intake and STOCK pipes. I don't plan in getting any other pipes, but am considering a new air intake (photo below.)

Would this set-up require rejetting? I'm thinking that it would, but would like an answer from the experts here on the forum.

Thanks,

M7

Hi Mark, reason he didn't list it, is probably because the BAC will not offer much gain without a freerer flowing exhaust..the two sorta go hand in hand...

Mark, Flashback is right. You would be moving in ALOT more air and trying to get it out of a hole the size of your pinkie. Not a good combo. BB

When I got my airbox it was prior to the pipes showing up...
Just had to put it on, you know how it is...
All I had to adjust was the pms and the bike ran fine..
when the pipes showed up went back in and rejetted.

Re:Jetting question 11 Months ago
I had the opposite happen. Buddy bought the Speedstar box, with no jet kit, we bolted it on, (he had a set of pipes on it already, no jet kit) and man , that thing couldn't get out of it's own way. Bought a jet kit, and it was all better. Curious, did you see any power difference with just the airbox change? BB

That's kinda the thought I had about adding the airbox without adding the pipes too.

Thanks much for the input guys!

Hey Mark, I don't think you will hurt anything, except your wallet, by putting it on,,It just won't add to the performance very much...I have this pro hypercharger laying around, as you know.. If you want to try it out your welcome to it.. If you like it, make me an offer you can't refuse....

Re:Jetting question 11 Months ago
The price was right (it sold for $75) and I do like the look of the duel pipes, but that may be down the road one day. But then I'll need to get the brackets that lower the hard bags, jet kit and who knows what other stuff. I'm trying to get a handle of the accessory addiction that seems to plague all us motor jockey's.

The whole point of adding the K&N was to keep from every having to buy another air filter. I've got K&N in my pathfinder and did notice improved performance and mileage after the install. But the Big-In, Small-Out theory makes sense on why there'd be no performance benefit to adding the unit.

And thanks for the offer of the hypercharger I love the look of having it hanging out there on the side of the big twins. It just says power to me, but I think you're right in that it would poke out too much for me to be comfortable riding with it. So I'll pass. Make yourself a quick $200 and sell it on ebay. Those things are on there all the time for nearly $300, so if you posted yours I'm sure it would sell no problem.

Re:Jetting question 11 Months ago
Mark , just drop in a K&N replacement filter in your stock box. No jetting issues, and it cost Marginally more than a stock paper one. I had that set up for a few months (before the bug REALLY bit !). BB
