Harley transmissions have direct drive for 5th gear. Our transmissions have the 4th gear ratio .986 (I think) which is a very slight overdrive. Our 5th gear ratio is .75 which is realy an overdrive! Made for cruising, not accelerating.

I posted in another thread about getting some seat time and how the misses and I were heading into a 30 MPH headwind...
Even after kicking it down to 4th and just about stretching the snot out of the throttle cable...

I couldn't get any more than 90 MPH out of the poor thing ...(And you know an R* can do better on a good day)

These machines are amazing, even for these times... But, they've got limits...

You are right about amazing. I spent a lot of time searching for the right bike for the money before trading my Kaw. At 6 ft and 60 young years power and comfort is right where you want it.
