#75120 fvansan (User) Fresh Boarder Posts: 31 right jet kit? 9 Months ago   OK, I hope this isn't too much of a dumb question. The used 05 R* I bought came with V&H Powershots, Very nice sound by the way. Inside the saddle bag, the former owner left a Yamaha jet kit with what I assume are the stock carb jets in the new jetting packaging. My question is Yamaha part # SPD-4WM09-49-10 the correct jet kit for this exhaust system? The bike, I guess runs fine, but the gas miledge doesn't seem very good. While I need to figure out the miledge, It seems to me by my guessstimate seems to be somewhere in the 20's MPG. Thanks! Frank BTW, I love the bike anyhow,but better gas miledge would be a bonus. I don't rev it up at stop lights, or crank up the throttle. I usually ride steadly 55+ mph. You mileage is much too low and could be due to the carb being jetted too rich. The jetting didn't need to be touched. The stock main should be a 182.5 Mikuni and the stock needle only has one groove. If you have those parts put them back in. And see what the PMS is set at. Check the pilot jet too. It should be a 35 Mik. Also these bikes love to be reved. Don't baby them. If you are cruising at 55 in 5th all the time you could be carboning up the plugs and motor. Run it out in each gear. I'm not saying hit the limiter but you should wind it out some. At least once a week take the bike out and ride the beegeebers out of it. Better bike pic You need to go in to the carb and see what you have in there for a main jet, pilot jet, what the PMS is set at, and what the needle is set at. The kit package left by the former owner has a 35 and 60 jet kit stamped on it. I think those are the stock jets. What is in the carb is most likly the jets that come in the part # SPD-4WM09-49-10. I'm guessing the former owner installed different jets because of the upgrade V&H Powershots and KN filter. Since, I reluctand to tear apart the carbs to locate the number on those newly installed jets. The bike has about 3,600 miles on it.
