Ordered Main jets from Yami.. which sizing to use? 4 Years, 1 Month ago
I'm adding a hypercharger to my 03 R* 1600 and obviously need to rejet (also have Sampson Oval Slip ons). I picked up the hypercharger 2nd hand, so the jet kit that came with it isn't the "Kuryakan" kit. It's a V&H kit and the mains range from 165-175. I've been advised by the gurus here that the 175 is too lean for my application and should likely run a 180 (DynoJet sizing), possibly slightly larger.

Here's my question... I'd rather not order a whole new jet kit, since all I need is a larger main. Ordering from my local dealer, what sizes will their jets correlate to (DynoJet or Mikuni)? I had him bring me in a 180 & 185 but I haven't been able to pick them up yet. From what I've read, DJ main jets are sized smaller, comparing number to number, than Miks.

Thanks in advance, this is an awesome site that backs up an awesome bike!

A DJ 175 might be OK but you should have a DJ 180 in hand.

You should have all the jets you need with this new order.

So by asking for a "180 main jet" from Yamaha, I'll be ok? I never specified DJ or Mik...

No .... you need to specify.

If you ordered a 180 main for the R* from the Yamaha dealer you will probably get a Mikuni 180.

As you probably know, you need a Mik 170 and 167.5.

Thanks so much Doc, you are fantastic! I've already called my dealer and ordered up a 167.5 & 170 Mikuni main. He's good enough too that they'll send back the other ones I ordered in error. The hope is by next week to have everything all buttoned up and ready to ride!
