Jetting 8 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I need some advice on jetting My 04 Road Star. I bought it 2 years ago, love the bike, It came with Cobra Exhaust(no Baffells)and a Hypercharger. My buddy has the same bike, same set up. We changed bikes last summer up in Laconia, and I noticed his bike is alot quicker off the line than mine. I didn't put on the exhaust or the hypercharger, so I don't no about the jetting. I noticed the polution stuff was still on the bike so i ordered the kit and removed it. No change. I ordered the jet kit from cobra, and talked to them before doing anything. They told me the carb must have been jetted when they did the exhaust but I have no idea. One thing I noticed was the kit calls for a 180 jet with baffells and a 185 without. Maybe the bike was jetted with the baffells in? Can I just remove the float bowl and see what main jet is in there?, What should I do, before I make a real project out of this?

Find out what you have in there for main jet, pilot jet, needle and what it's set at, and where the PMS is set. If they put Allen head bolts in the float bowl dropping the bowl with the carb on the bike is no problem. Then you can just unscrew the jets to see what they are. If they left the junk stock screws in there it might be a problem.

Doesn't hurt to go in and check it out.

If you both have the same setup why not jet yours like he has his?

He had his done at the dealer. Dealer is closed. no info. Tomorow night I'm going to take off the float bowl and see whats what.
One thing I noticed today was there are two electrical plugs that go to the carb. one was flat and one was round. the round one wasn't connected so I connected it. I didn't notice any change.

Do you know if he changed the front sprocket? Maybe that is where the quickness comes from.

Breeze has a good point .... a lot quicker usually means a front pulley change.

He may also have a hot ignition box in his as well. When I put my Dyna 3000 in that's whay I noticed more than anything. The low-end torque really came alive.
