Help I need help jetting 8 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I have a 2006 R*,I put Hard Krome side burners on, K&N filter in stock box, and I removed the AIS. I sent it out to have it jetted because I was afraid to do it myself. Problem is now it backfires and pops EVERY time I let off the throtle. First thing I thought was exhaust leak, but there is not an exhaust leak. I cannot down shift without, BANG Pop Pop Pop!!!! It was a little worse before I took off the AIS today(although that may have been wishful thinking) but it is still horible. I pulled the carb but did not open it up for the jets yet, I plan on doing it in the morning. The PMS was at 4 1/2 turns. I have a Dynojet kit, and I have extra jets because I also have a 650 v-star kit. Please tell me what I need to do to start with in the morning. I do not know what jets are in it yet, but I am hoping that someone has a similar set up and can give me some advice to start with. When I called the guy who did the jetting he told me that the pipes will cause this, and there is nothing I can do about it. I find it hard to believe that everyone with these pipes has the same thing happening to them.

Still looking for a good garage to work on my bike. I am sure there has to be one around here, I just have not found it yet. If anyone knows of a good reliable bike shop, please let me kow, I live in Lancaster County, Pa.
Thanks

Put the stock jets and needle back in. Turn the PMS back in to 2 1/2 or 3 turns out. You don't need to jet with just pipes and the K&N in the stock box. Did you cap off the nipple on top of the manifold? When you put the plates on the holes in the cylinders did you use the thin metal gaskets that were behind the AIS tubes? You need to check for any airleaks in the intake side of things also.

I did plug the manifold, and I did use the gaskets behind the metal covers. Which jets are the stock ones? When I got our bikes back both jet kits had been combined into one, I do not even know which jets goes into which kit. Stock needle?
Thanks

The stock main is a 182.5 mik. The stock pilot is a 35 mik. The stock needle is a stick with only 1 groove.

Thanks Musky,
I got the original jets back in,original needle back in,PMS 2 3/4 turns. I did find an exhaust leak on the rear pipe, and when I tried to tighten it down I broke off the bolt. I called the Yami dealer and they will not have any in until Tuesday, so now I wait while the temp hits the 75 degree mark for the next few days. I guess I can take my wife's V-star out for a ride if it gets to bad.

By the way does anyone have any tricks to getting the bolt out of the header? I broke it off, but there are still about 1/2 inch of thread showing, I was thinking af trying to get 2 small nuts twist them on and then geta socket on the one closer to the engine and hopefully twist it right out. Does this sound like it will work?
I have until Tuesday to get this done, that is when the new part comes in. If after I remount these pipes I still get a exhaust leak, I will be looking for some new pipes. Does anyone have any interest in a set of Hard Krome 2 into 1 Sideburners?

Should work.

Also spray some penetrating oil to loosen it up.

Check the ends of the pipes. It's not uncommon to have burrs on the ends. You might also pick up a new set of gaskets. You can get Felpro 23588 at the auto parts stores for 2 or 3 bucks.
