If you are going to port do it before you start or at the same time as the jetting. But get it ported before you take the first test / WOT ride.

No ... but mic it out (both ends and middle) and post the specs.

You should just order a jet kit from one of the after market vendors. I'd recommend the Baron but Cobra, KuryAkyn, or straight form Dynojet will do.

I'D GO TO THE DEALER AND SEE IF IT COMPARES TO THE SPEEDSTAR NEEDLE. THAT'S THE ONE YOU WANT FROM THEM.

You can easily tell the difference between a stock needle and one meant for use in our jetting just by looking at it. Scroll a little more than 1/4 way down and you will see the difference. Carb
You would have less trouble if you just bought a jet kit IMO.

Re:is it possible 8 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Overall I'm not having problems yet but after the advice recieved i figured that i would buy the few jets and buy an adjustable needle if i could get separate which i could.cost $31.0 compared to $68 or so.but what i did was ask the dealer is to match the stock needle with an ajustable from makuni and it did ask for the existing stock needle #.as for now, after looking at the carb needle pics side by side my stock and the one i got from makuni look the same except the clip grooves.but i will mic the stock one out before i start.i understand now that it would make sense to just buy a kit.

Re:is it possible 8 Months, 2 Weeks ago
ok now i'm having problems, the dealer stupped me on the needle and sold me one for a vm38 carb.how they matched that from the stock one, i have no idea.so i bought a kit from the internet and is coming.but i did get the manifold ported and did some experimenting.i put the 37.5 pilot in and the 167.5 main and the pms adusted at around 2 1/2 or so.STOCK NEEDLE with starting with a shim under the clip then spacer and another shim.and the idle is much smoother and even. less time to warm up it seemed.@ half throttle smoother but a little missing acurring.wot seemed to miss a little more than 1/2 throttle.no back fire when quickly letting off the throttle.road test,it will smoke the tire on cement from the line.0 to 55 much better from the 2 telephone poles i was going by.0 to 110, ok it was 108,a little quicker to the poles and that was doing it drag race style and no backfire on decel.crusing at 55 in 5th no surging but very flat when i want to excelerate and go.right now i'm thinking that by porting the manifold got me better idle, more hp from leaning it out with the 167.5 main.but i need an ajustable needle to get the flatness out of it.right now i'm thinking leave everything but put the new needle at the 4th groove when it comes.what do you guys think?
