help jetting 5 Years, 9 Months ago
I just put a ported manifold on a 03 roadstar and cant get it right. This is my set up- stock carb with dynojet kit, ported manifold, bub jug huggers open pipe. The shop here in town had the bike for some time and gave up.Carb set up was 175 main ,e-clip on 3rd grove, mix at 2.5 out runs way to rich fouling plugs. Went to 170 main ,2 on the e-clip and one size down on the pilot jet, 2.5 on mix. no good it keeps poping and wont run. Can you guys give me a good starting point set up.Thank you much... Oh I have K&N air filter on it to that was something i left out.

Post edited by: geo76og, at: 2006/08/05 12:02

You're in the ballpark with the DJ so make sure there are no manifold leaks. They will screw up any attempt at jetting the carb.

Also check that the AIS nipple is on tight.

Then check the float level.

AIS is off the bike and I cant find any leaks. The mix screw when you go out, makes it richer or leaner mix?

You could check for exhaust leaks too.

The AIS nipple is on the manifold. They dry out with the heat, crack and then leak.

Check again for manifold leaks. They're sometimes hard to find and it's good to be sure.

hmmm.. if it was running fine prior to the Manifold install.. (with the Dynojet kit, K&N and pipes).. then the symptoms all point at a manifold leak.

Which manifold do you have (Nemisis, Barons, Ported Stock?). Did you install it yourself? Did the shop do it? How are you testing for leaks (WD-40 method?) I assume that the plugs are fouled when you run it a bit (since you stated it is running really rich)?

make sure that the Manifold doesnt have any cracks in it.. they can be hard to spot. I would pull and reseat the manifold...maybe try some vaseline jelly on the seats as a temporary sealant.. see if that helps.

Good luck, and let us know what you find.

Check the float level. If it's too high it will run rich.
