pop from front cyd. 4 Years, 1 Month ago
07 roadie 1950 miles. New Vance & Hines longshots HS with Kuryakyn twin velocity installed shortly after the purchase in july of 07. Bike as ran great till the other day left me sitting on the side of the road with a dead battery. Come to find out regulator went out on the chargng system. Under warrenty no problem but, since getting bike back from dealer front cylinder has a pop in it at idle and when I shut off the bike it backfires out of that cylinder also. Any ideas??
I've check for air leaks , changed the jetting and needle settings in the bike adjusted the pms know luck.

Greenville, SC 955 feet above sea level
Jetted bike with jets that come with Kuryakyn kit
37.5 pilot
182.5 main
pms 4 turns
clip in 4th groove

The 182.5 is the stock main jet size. Did you the 182.5 out and put a 182.5 back in? 4 turns out on the PMS is too much. 37.5 might be too big also. If you have the multi groove needle in the the 182.5 is way too big. I would say your running rich all across the board. I think Kury uses Mikuni jets. Do the jets have an R with a little square next to it stamped on top? If they do I would suggest the 170 main and 35 pilot. PMS between 2 1/2 and 3 turns. Put the clip in the 5th groove (from blunt end) and do the WOT. If the main checks out move the clip to the 4th groove and tweak the needle and PMS from there. Might want to put new plugs in too.

If the bike wasn't having problems before the dealer messed with the electrics I would guess they messed up something with the firing of the front cylinder. I would at least make them check it out.

Hey Musky , thanks for the reply. No the jets aren't mikuni(at least dont think) writing is on the side. Did a compress test since post lookin for something in the value train, but checked out ok. the cylinder that is poping the plugs (new today) look good and the back cylinder is showing the richness. last ime I checked the MPG with the setup I had got 52.3 mpg. And the plugs look good. Even tried dropping the needle down one groove and bike stumbled just abit at first throttle. I do plan on letting the dealer check it out, just figured I'll look i to it before hand. I have not removed the AIS as of yet any thoughts there?

I think Factory Pro jets are marked on the sides. They are supposed to match Mikuni. I don't know what to say. Those setting sound way rich to me but if you are calculating you mpg correctly and your plugs look good something must be working. Taking the AIS off will help with mild popping on decel but I don't think it would help the issue you describe. But taking it off does get rid of a big chunk of ugly.

How does the bike pull? Does it acclerate evenly at all speeds? Does it stumble at any speeds? Is it sluggish at any speeds? You really don't have enough miles on it yet and if your under 3000 miles things are still tight. I would say ride the hound out of it and enjoy it for a while before you do anything. As the guys would say ride it like you stole it these bike don't like to be babied.

Well after days of rejettng checking out everything I could think of, come to find that I believe it was the choke cable being pulled to hard by the dealer and was open alittle. Ddn't have to trim the knob or anything, just tightened up the adjustment nut behind the knob. Everything back to good.
