This can be tricky because getting our directions on the same page is critical. What you are doing is trying to cause the float needle to shut off sooner. With the carb "upside down" I assume you have the carb off. Looking at the floats you will see at the pivoting pin (that the float pivots up and down on) a metal flange-tang. This rises and falls with the rise and fall of the float. What rests on the metal tang is tha float needle which is rubber coated at the tip (up inside the channel) and as the gas rises it also causes the tang to go with it. Thus causing the needle to hit the hole and plug it tight shutting off the flow. So as you imagine the float rising you will need to gently bend the tang toward the needle (away from the filling bowl) which will cause the needle to engage sooner... shutting off the flow. Be very careful not to apply too much pressure for 2 reasons. 1- you can break the 2 rivoted (attachment) points which hold the tang in place. and 2- a little goes along way. A small movement in bending makes a pretty good change.

I have better luck removing the phillips screw holding the pivot pin and the whole float -needle -pin assy comes out then the tang is right there attached to the float. Adjust and reassy. I don't even remove the carb from the bike. Just move-shift the heater lugs, take off the bowl (shut off the tank) and do it.

Once you get in there you will see. Just keep yopu rcomputer on line so you can ask questions if you get stuck.

I hope this helps.
