oldroadstar, I had the same thing happen to my 05 R*. I got a shop manual (you should have one anyway), I asked a few questions here, and a friend at the dealers, bought a inch lb torque wrench and followed the manual. The parts cost me around 300 to 350.00. That was the final drive shaft, gaskets, o rings, and pulley. I had about 12,000 miles on at the time. The chain and front gear were still good.The dealer wanted 600.00. I just took my time and it took about 5 hrs, including lunch and a couple of breaks. The mechanic at the dealer that helped me and gave me a couple of new lock washers from a tranny recall kit he had laying around. If you can change your oil, spark plugs, adjust your belt tension and have a moderate mechanical ability,,,, do it yourself. The guys here are great and can help you if you run into problems.
