jetting/hypercharger setup question 5 Years, 9 Months ago
Hi everybody!
I'm new to the site, and have been reading many posts the last couple days, and I have to say, you guys seem pretty knowledgeable, so I am coming to you for help.
My question is I recently had my '05 Roadie jetted at the dealer (Dynojet Stage 1 175 main, and I believe they put in the pilot jet that comes with the kit, running Hard Krome 3" Big Straights with stock airbox, AIS removed completely).
It has been running like crap ever since, poor gas mileage, feels like the cylinders are fighting each other just off idle, rear cylinder seems to keep dropping out then coming back, and popping on decel, and the dealer says it is probably due to the ethanol added to the gasoline now, but I find that very hard to believe!
I have a hypercharger I want to add, but I just don't know how to go about it as
I have never played with carbs, but feel I can handle whatever I need to do to get it right, as I really don't trust the dealer anymore.
Any advice you guys can offer is greatly appreciated!!

Welcome to the forum buckhntr

I've heard of other dealers saying that. I think they say that when they don't know what they're doing and they hope the customer doesn't either. If you have pipes and have jetted but you still have the stock air box on I think that is your biggest problem. Or that's my opinion anywho. You should also check to make sure you don't have leaks from the AIS removal. Double check the port on top of the manifold. I'm no wrench but I don't think twice (anymore) about working on this bike. Very easy bike to play with. I'm hopefully going to be putting on a BAK and doing some jetting this weekend.

Post edited by: Musky, at: 2006/08/24 19:56

I'd say Musky is right on... the stock airbox is your problem. The way it is jetted, it will probably be close once you put the hypercharger on. Doc and some of the others are much more experienced in jetting with the Dyno Jets.. they will help!

Typically with just pipes... dont really need to rejet. The stock airbox is way restrictive...

I'll pretty much confirm the previous posts and ... put the stock carb components back in and just re-adjust the PMS if necessary.

Save the jet kit until you get an aftermarket airbox.

While you're at it check the float level to make sure they did not screw it up when changing out the jets.

That's pretty much the easiest route.

Buck a restricted air box(like the stock one) will make even the slightest leak more noticable. So even after you put the hypercharger on, be sure to take the earlier advice and check all the AIS ports most especially the manifold.
