Doc,
I beleive I tried that before and had similar results which led to SVS.
Do you think it is now to lean on the bottom? What does it sound like?
Sounds like lean symtoms but I bet I could pull the plugs and they would be jet black. Seems like this bike is always rich.
Yes, mikuni 170.

Hmmm makes no sense. I dont have the velocity, I have the Mr. C breather, 170 main, 35 pilot, pms 3 out, elevation 850'.. mine runs great now. I had the SVS problem when I had the stock breather and cobra pipes, but it was always running rich. Since I changed it's been great. Cant understand why you cant dial yours in.
I also shut my accel pump all the way off to clear up the coughing....didnt hurt me on take off.

I don't understand why either. I do know, it is getting very frustrating. Summer is right around the corner and I guess I'll be working on my bike while everyone else is riding.

sounds like maybe 4 things
1. float bowl level.
2. accel pump still pumping too much gas off the line, I had the filter off and did several turns to screw it in til hit the nut, giving least amount of squirt.
3. valves still carboned up, you can try spraying direct into carb and let sit over night than run it out the next day. Water sprayed into the carb fast idle will also clean out the valves some(get it warmed up spray with a squirt bottle) should see some carbon blowing out the tailpipe.
4. Choke cable stretched not shutting choke down all the way, I can actually hear it sucking air sound when choke is pulled than tone change when choke is off (choke - enrichner)

My bike now coughs out the carb when pulling out.
Has a dead spot between 1/4 and 3/4 throttle.l
Usually a sign that you're a bit lean on the needle.
To verify ... pull the choke out a bit and test it out. It should improve a bit.
I'm about the same elevation ... 167.5, 35, 4th clip.
Are sure the main it OK?

I have a 2007 Road Star 1700. It is all stock...right now. Just purchased HDK Sideburners 2 into 1 pipes. Should I rejet my carb? I am reading conflicting info. Musky keeps saying no, but I here some folks say yes. I also live in Colorado Springs, Colorado...approx 6,400 ft el. Sometimes ride up to 11,000 ft el. Also, what does it take to remove the AIS sys on the bike, and what are the ramifications if I do so? Any suggestions?
