HELP!!! R* carb is loading up in first half mile 6 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Ok folks new to the roadie scene just bought my 05 midnight . It already had v&h longshots no baffles, K&N filter set up, ais removed and I suppose it's been jetted judging by the plug condition when I pulled them. Now the problem ,doesn't matter what temp ,doesn't matter how long I let it warm up. Bought a half mile after i take off it starts chugging and sputtering sometimes to the point of going dead. If you clutch it and bounce the rev limiter and blow the extra fuel out she smooths right out and goes on or just hammer down on the throttle. Any suggestions?

You have to go in and see what you have for jetting and needle. Running some Seafoam, Ringfree, or MMO will probably help clear it up temporarily but it will come back if you're jetted too rich. These bikes are cold blooded and aren't happy until they are warmed up so they never run their best when cold.

Uh, what condition where the plugs in when you pulled them?
Stars are notorious for the rear cylinder plugs to be carboned... (so that could be normal)
Also, are you choking it? Try a full choke to start it, then push it in two clicks and wait a good mile or better to completely take the choke off...
Like Musky said... These ladies are cold blodded... (But, big and warm hearted!)

Oh, and BTW...

Other questions:

How many miles?

Have you put fresh fuel in, or still running what was in it when you bought it?

Sounds like a similar problem I had. Wouldn't hurt to take a peek in the gas tank and make sure its not all rusted up before you tear her down too much. You never know how it was stored before you bought it.

Thanks guys , Musky from your pic looks like I have the same set up as yours my air cleaner looks the same. what jet sizes are you running? I found a site called motorcyclecarbs.com that will sell specific jet sizes and types so you don't have to pay $100 bucks for a bunch of jets you don't need. Also my local bike guru recommended I go from a 9 heat range factory plug to a hotter 6 range and although the stutter was still there at the beginning the fuel mileage went through the roof I'm sitting @ 129 miles with just under a half tank where as it was on empty @ 129

If you click on my name in blue above may avatar you can see my set up. You shouldn't need to run that hot of a plug to run good. You need to see what you have for jetting. You can get a complete jet kit for a lot less than 100 bucks. And it's not just the main jets you need. You might need a new pilot jet, and you need to see what you have for a needle.

OK after a little research it appears my set up is a BAK do they come with several different jet sizes when you order them? the web site is pretty vague. Sorry for all the trouble but all this stuff was already on the bike at the dealership . Also the pipes had baffles in them when I bought the bike and i removed them reckon that would aggravate this problem.

When you buy the BAK the Barons jet kit comes with it. You get all the jets you need, a good 6 groove needle, extra clips, and 4 Allen head float bowl screws. You can order the jet kit seperately.

Correct the problem by jetting correctly first before you start trying to 'fix' it with different heat range plugs.
