Done in the lab ! 7 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Well for a week now I've been jetting and tweaking a few different ways just to see what I can get for power and mileage. Some of you know about a week or so ago I was averaging 46-47 m.p.g. That was with the 165 mik main, 35 pilot, needle on 3rd from top. After the WOT test it was a little lean. Went to a 170 mik, 35 pilot, 3rd from top.... 38.6 m.p.g. WOT said a little rich. So, after WOT yesterday the 167.5 mik. worked best for me, 35 pilot, moved the clip to 4th from top, pms 3 out,.... 42-43 mpg's in town and highway mixed. Thats where I'm staying!! ....(for now)

Blackroadie what is your elevation there? Just trying to see how it would relate to central Texas.

I'm using the DJ180, its right between the 167.5/170 mik. and my dyno run was good...
have the adjustable needle compared to the log stock needle really gives a better power band and fuel delivery.
Blackroadie after you get past the extra power and twist of the throttle, mileage should come back a little.. I found that I was always twisting to see how she pulls, but if I get with the group and just ride, my mileage goes back up to about 48 mpg, but average 42-45 tank to tank.

Re:Done in the lab ! 7 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I need to know is there a difference in the needles? Like Barons kit and any others? I'm running the baron's kit with a 165 main , 35 pilot 3rd notch on the needle. I get 37-38 mpg. I have held the mikuni 165 main next to the barons 165 and there is a difference in size. I know that I'm running rich due to the black carbon on the mufflers of my new pipes.
And the fact that I never use the choke(enrichner) knob. I just hit the starter and she runs.Even when she has sat all night I never use the choke.

The Barons jet kit uses Mikuni jets. They don't make their own. Look on the top of the two 165's. They should both have an "R" with a little square next to it. Are you sure you aren't comparing a Dyno 165 to a Mik 165?

165 from Barons sounds like a good jet that should not be rich, Maybe PMS to far out, or float bowl to high.
But you are hauling around a lot of extra weight with the bags and fairing.
could be a combination of both, just check and be sure..

Musky I know that one of the 165 jets has the R but the other doesn't. And Bowhunter you mention that I'm carrying alot of extra weight. The fairing and bags have added about 35lbs. There are guys on this forum whom outweigh me by 75lbs in body weight. So how come they can get better mileage with bags windshield and extra body weight.
