Whats up with my BAK 4 Years ago
Does anyone who has a BAK on there bike had a problem with fouling out the plugs? I just had a BAK V102 kit installed along with Bub Jughuggers. I don't know what I'm doin wrong. The guy that installed it did it the old fassion way put the jets in and ride, check the plugs ride again. I know that he is a great mech but I have heard that the BAK is very hard to tune and jet. I really notice it when I start it up then cut the choke ride and then it sounds like the motor is trying to come through the exhaust. Cutting out sputtering backfiring and so on. I just want it fixed. Is it a problem with jetting or tuning the needle our just my stupidity? Can anyone help???? By the way will have a better pic of my bike when I upload the photos.

The BAK is not hard to tune. What you need to find out is how it was jetted (main jet , pilot jet , where the needle is , including the spacers , and where the PMS was set at). The shop that did the work should be able to tell you these things.BB

Re:Whats up with my BAK 4 Years ago
The guy that did the work did it at his house. I do know that the works for a Yam dealer in SC. And is supposed to be a master mech. But I don't think he tuned my bike quite right. I know that the roadie is a cold natured beast. I am very impressed with what I have I just want it to run to the best of its ability. I will call him today. Thanks for the help....

When I re-jetted mine with Longshots it was perfect, all I had to do was follow Barons set-up. When I changed to Dooley's it changed the set-up and while I've come close, never quite hit that same sweet spot. Thought I was a pretty good wrench, but this may end up at the shop in town that works on all V Twins and has a Dyno. Another road* owner used them and raved about the results.

Once I get this new leak/idle problem solved that is.

Since you have a 1700 I would say (just MY opinion) from all of the users setups that I have viewed on here and from where I am ending up, I would advise anyone with pipes and a free breathing air cleaner to start with:
Main jet: Mikuni 167.5 or 170 (or 180 Dynojet)
Pilot: Stock 35
PMS: 3 turns out

Again: just my opinion as a good starting point on 1700's.

In my situation when I bought the bike it only had a set of Bub Big Willys with the stock airbox but the carb had a Mik 175 and a 37.5 pilot. I have had everything from a DJ170 to a DJ190 in it and it has never ran bad. It just got better and better as I got it right.

Soulm8ts I have an 05 1700 and you are running close to what I am. I do have a proted stock manifold. You might check my jetting and use it as a god by to start with. BTW my Stubbies are only running torque cones so you might want to try the 170 main.

Re:Whats up with my BAK 4 Years ago
All right guys. Other than the standard 2wheels my other vehicle has 18 so I just got the messages. Thanks for all of the help. I finally got a hold of the guy that did the install for me and said that the jetting was too big. My co-driver at work said that when I got on my bike there was a strong smell of gas. And when I parked it in the garage today it fill it with strong fumes. The verdict was that the jetting was too large. I am supposed to take it to him this weekend and he is going to bring a portable machine home to jet it. So hopefully it will be up an strong this week end...

I hope you get it running right, I really like the looks of the BAK, but after getting frustraited I went back to the stock intake this past week and I racked up some good miles this weekend and running great.

I hope that it runs right also. I really like the performance and the pep that the BAK gives the bike. Im not much of a speed deamon as I used to be. But its nice to have it when I need ti. The Jughuggers give a great sound and look. I will find out Friday..
