Ok, I just read the information on changing and checking the main jets. It said that the main jet should say #165 on the jet it. I will check and see the number. Is the another jet that I should check also?

While your in there check to see what pilot jet is in it and also check your float level and check to see how far the PMS is screwed out by counting the turns in until it is LIGHTLY seated. Also see what needle is in the carb and if it has multiple groves at the top and if it does what grove the e-clip is in. Remember how the needle is stacked up with spacers and washers so you can put it back the same way. Once you know all this we will be able to help you out with your jetting AND you will be more familiar with your carb.

I believe your numbers...I also have a 2000 R and have posted the same type of numbers. Make sure you look for the 50+ MPG forum header...there was some great posts and detail on this issue.

I plan on looking at my jetting in the next few days so it will be interesting to compare notes. Sounds like we have the same mods and year of bike and very similar mileage. Although my 20mpg was half freeway and half around town.

If you make changes try and single out each change and do a check on the mileage. That way you're not making three changes and not being able to pinpoint the exact reason. That would be very helpful for future forum readers.

I will definitely post my results.

Hmmm... try second gear....???

Seriously, I don't know what to tell you except to take the carb apart and have a look. I get 42-47 mpg all the time and I do dog it VERY hard, when I'm riding solo. Just follow Curt's instructions... he seems to make a hobby out of rebuilding his carb regularly.

I'm guessing 50 pilot jet. 200 main, needle in 5th groove, PMS 4 turns out, and the float 1/4 inch high..

Seriously. If your math is right you need to get in the carb and see what you have.

i am definitely not the brightest bulb in the box but are you printing out a receipt to check how much you are putting in my R* needs the gas filter changed and it sometimes gives me a false sputter like i need to go to reserve i just hold the accelerator and she usually picks right back up. not to hijack the thread but does anyone else make a filter for the bike other then the stealership?

Yep, time to do a little home work and figure out how she's a jetted. 1600 Roadies were VERY tolerant of being jetted rich, would/will run without the issues experienced by the 1700 crowd. Nothing you can't fix though. BB
