Fouled plugs 7 Months ago
Ever since the dealer jetted my bike it runs like crap. They ruined the pipes and I replaced them with cobra speedster longs and took the jetting back to factory jets and 3 turns on the pms. I took it to the dealer 4 times before giving up on them and doing it myself. On the 4th trip they said the plugs were fowled and changed them. About 500 miles later I pulled them out and checked them and they were terrible (back was worse than the front.) I cleaned them and put them back in when i rejetted. It started running rough and i pulled them again (probably around 500 miles since i cleaned them.) Back ones are terrible agian and front right was pretty bad but front left was OK. Any suggestions? Sticky valve syndrome? Is that covered by warranty usually because i only have about 2 months left with warranty....any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks

pfouts, I know the super-duper gurus will ask what size jets you're using, if you've checked the float level to make sure it isn't stuck, etc. You're obviously running VERY rich. SVS is a condition where the back jug's exhaust valve is sticking, causing loss of power, etc. This doesn't sound like SVS to me. One or two of the great ones will be helping soon.

Edit: Also, what are you using for air intake (stock or ??)? Why did the dealer re-jet in the first place? If you had only added new pipes, re-jetting wouldn't have normally been necessary.

So you have stock airbox and stock jets with cobras.

What are your symptoms that you say it's running bad.

very cold natured...dies without giving it gas at stop signs and redlights for a couple of miles...ocassionally for around the first 10 minutes of riding in 4th or 5th gear it will be going smooth then act like its out of gas...(looses power, when it does this i can take it to wide open throttle with no increase in speed or rpm) i can back off the throttle for a second or 2 then i will take back off when i give it gas...it seems to be running much better today after i cleaned the plugs

Yes they are cold natured. You sound like you may also be using too low of a gear ..... you need to keep the revs up a bit.

When it's idling, if you put a piece of cloth at the end of the tailpipe does the cloth get sucked back into the pipe?

I'm with Doc on this. Nothing fouls plugs faster than running at too low an RPM. Let her run, and you just might solve the problem.
