Once I got rid of that pesky SVS it was real easy to dial her in. She had never been right for 16000 miles until I switched to the Bubs and really did a drastick SVS treatment. (Takin the pipes off and squirting the ports) Now the pipes are clean and she run real good. Ya just have to find the right combo for your bike when comes to air intake pipes and jetting. She may be a little lean but after fighting SVS for 16000 I will take my chances.

Well, I'm still trying this thing out.

I'm in Louisiana, getting no better than 33mpg. I drive mostly interstate and I've been keeping it at or very close to 70mph. My pipes are some kind of black on the inside, but it was running rich from previous owner.

There can only be so many things left to check. I would like to move the clip on the needle but I will have to have some dummie proof instructions for that. Any dummie instructors out there?

I'm not looking for miracles, but if I could get to 38-40 mpg's it would make me feel a little better.

Any takers?

Hey, I was wondering if most riders out there use the 87 octane or the 91? Seems like I do better with the 87. Took the advice and just added some SeaFoam to the tank Have to wait and see what happens.

I think you're better off using 87 if you are stock, if you have higher compression pistions, 91 would be better. Contrary to popular belief premium or 91 octane burns cooler that regular. Supreme has octane boosters which allow for higher temperatures inside the combustion chamber so that you don't get preignition, which is knock. When the temp in the chamber gets too high (higher compression motors) then the fuel starts to ignite before the spark plug ignites. Then a millisecond later the plug fires and you have two flame fronts that meet and you get the knock.

It might also make a difference if you live in a very hot environment like the desert. Maybe under certain cirmstances you would need 91?

That brings up an interest difference on a twin plug head and why you don't get knock when you have two plugs going off (I assume at the same time) you should be having two flame fronts meeting. But I guess when you have an engine knocking due to low octane you have a flame front coming from the piston and then a flame front coming from the spark plug which would disrupt the correct direction of flame travel?
