Ok so the story goes like this
Cobra pipes ( the loud ones)
K&N force charger filter ( the one that sits on the old air filter mount plate)
Bought Dyno jety kit, fitted 180 main, needle jet on third space, turned pms screw 3.5 turns, all ok but on decell always get a slight backfire and its winding me up

Hey Si B, if you've adjusted your PMS then I'd lay money down that your backfire is related to that. Check this article out in the tech forums and go from there. It explains how to dial in your PMS to the right setting to eliminate the backfire on decel.

Yep thats what I thought just wondered if anyone else has same setup and reckoned 3,5 turns was too many/not enough, but got a day off tomorrow so will have a play, thanks for pointing me in the direction of that article

Si B.

If you made adjustments to your PMS, there is probably some relation to that , however, be aware that the AIS injects air into the exhaust to reduce emmissions and can cause backfire if you use engine decelleration . That's a big reason why so many of us remove the AIS.

In fact, if I recall correctly, the owners manuals state that you should just use your brakes to come to a stop without downshifting and decellerating with the engine.

My two cents.

Rich.

do not know about elevation Michigan is close to sea level...
have the K&N air filter different pipes but use the 180 DJ main stock pilot 2.5 turns accel pump almost turned off so if you blip the throttle does not put too much gas in.
after removing the AIS Hard decel pop almost completely gone adjusted PMS to 2.75 and you have to really be on a hard decel to get the popping and its not very loud when it does.

Bike is about as lean as I would run it, get good gas mileage, HP & TQ are very nice. Cold blooded loves that choke (enrichner)til warmed up completely, if its pulling the cold oil from the tank or cold air in, it will sneeze out the carb if I have the choke turned off from low throttle accelerating.. but is perfect when warmed up.
